The original B5 DVD's had clear quality drops every time a scene used VFX.
DS9 will hopefully get a proper remaster from the source and a quality upscale, but there's no way you're getting close to the TNG blue ray quality.

Is TMP that popular? Did it undergo a reappraisal, like DS9?
Yes and yes.

Someday, maybe, but DS9 is not a guarantee either. See the TMP discussion thread in the movies section to see all the love being poured out for multiple versions. DS9 is interesting but doesn't hit the furor button for Trek people. Not the same way.

While I myself like TMP, I know it's not a Fan Favorite. But I also know that fans are completists. If they want to release all the TOS Movies in 4K, they'll release all the TOS Movies in 4K.

Like others have said: there's a lot less of TMP than there is of DS9. All the editing for TMP was also done on film and it was mastered on film. DS9 was mastered to tape. So it's just easier and quicker to remaster TMP than DS9.

The best we'll get out of DS9 and VOY is an upscaling. I think they'll do it within my generation's lifetime and that's about as specific as I can see.

I'm re-watching B5 at the moment and it looks great. For sure there is a drop in quality on the VFX - but the live action stuff is a clear improvement. It's weird they have not done Voyager and DS9 purely from a longevity point of view. I know some people wont even watch SD anymore, let along 4:3 - so having a widescreen version (sacrelige) would also be good. Just dont stuff it up like they did with Buffy.

Anyhow, this guy worked on the DE and reckons the cost of upgrading Voyager and DS9 would be around the same as to make 6 episodes of DSC! I know that I would prefer 13 seasons of HD DS9 and Voyager over 6 DSC episodes, lol.

Every time I tried streaming, they look like crap. Especially regarding jagged edges, more so than for videotaped sitcoms of the same era (1990s). And, you guessed it, the modern techniques to upscale are still very limited. Especially if one is viewing on a screen larger than a 6" smartphone.

You might want to check your tv settings. I have all the so called 'enhancements' turned off. When watching lower quaility 480p shows these 'enhancements' will often make things look horrid.

I wish they'd do the pair of them. Voyager and Deep Space Nine I mean. As Lord Garth said, upscaling is what's most likely going to happen, within my lifetime too. But I do wish they'd put their hand in their pocket and do it for longevity's sake. If a remaster of B5 can be profitable, why not DS9 or VOY?

It's one of those things that's just a bit of a shame for me. I know we are spoiled these days but I've got a nice, new, big TV and I like things to look nice on it. On a 70 inch screen through Netflix (we still have Star Trek on Netflix in Vietnam, minus DSC) Voyager looks like mud and DS9 like older mud. :(

That said, I'm very happy TMP has been done because I like it a lot and the Enterprise flyby was a thing of wonder on aforementioned television.

Rather than tit for tat over which bit I'd most like to be remastered I guess I'd say all of it. All of it. Every bit. It's history for one thing, legacy for another and longevity for a third. There are reasons to do it that in my view go beyond profit.

But then I'm an advocate for the protection and preservation of all television. It's shocking how much we've lost or just thrown away over the decades. Ask a Doctor Who fan.
