Spoilers Season 3 Trailer

I'm glad Johnathan Frakes lost some weight. He actually looks like a healthy older riker now. He looks more like the old leaner Riker when he was young.

If Seven IS a Commander, it begs the question "Who is she serving under?"

Or is this a Sisko-style situation where the billet is too small to justify a fourth pip?
You know, earning the pip is not that bad; she could be whatever ranked deserved, I think it would be nice to have some learning curve as a Starfleet officer for Seven and close to season's end she becomes Captain. This would open the doors for a legitimate spin-off where the series is about her being a Captain of a Starship.

Direct Commission Officer:

Given that Starfleet is modeled on the U.S. Navy, I'm assuming they do direct commissions.

The Navy directly commissions civilians who possess specialized skills (doctors, lawyers, engineers, chaplains, pharmacists, experts in unconventional warfare -- like Seven).

Having said this, the Navy has a Direct Commission Officers School (DCOS). It's where newly commissioned officers go to learn the nuts and bolts of being in the Navy (traditions, procedures, basic seamanship, etc.). I'm assuming SF has something similar along those lines.

Eh. Not a huge fan of Seven in Starfleet, but that's hardly a deal breaker. I don't have a lot of expectations right now and the shortcomings of PIC S2 aren't leaving me exactly excited. But there are seasons of LDS and Prodigy yet to come, so I suspect I'll be in a more receptive mood for whatever this turns out to be when it actually lands.

Nice! Having some real design continuity to the weapon pleases me. As opposed to STID and DSC both just redesigning the bat'leth and making it look worse. (IMO)
