Yeah, the market has really changed and only WB really knows how they will determine the success of this project. The fact that they are going forward with it, and announcing release dates is enough for this old Dune fan.

Let the chips fall where they may.

It's going to need to get a LOT worse than ba.5 to get people to change their daily habits again.

Except that most studios have already stepped away from quick streaming releases. I think WB is still the last one with guaranteed 45 days release to HBO cycle for all their movies. Now I want to see HBO Max subscription numbers. Do they go up when big movies come out? If not, this isn't good business.

I thought @theenglish was referring to Monkey Pox but it's a fun world where there could be multiple explanations for his post:shrug:

We all got spoiled pandemic wise the last couple generations.

We got extremely lucky as there have been potential pandemics every two or three years for all of the 21st century. The biggest shock to me was, given that we all knew one was coming, how unprepared nearly every government in the world was and apparently still is.

Can't spend tax payer money pre-emptively preparing for something that hasn't happened in generations no matter how likely it is to happen again. That's a waste!

Edit:. Hell, nobody is even doing anything about climate change because it costs money and politicians get to make hay over opposing political parties proposing to do anything about it.

Has anybody seen behind the scenes about creating the Sardukar language at all?

The guy who designed the languages in the film confirmed they're just speaking English. This is really evident if you mute and watch their lips. It's just heavily distorted by the sound crew, I believe to eliminate all but the most essential sounds from each sentence, as a nod to their brutal efficiency extending even to their speech.

Interesting. I was wondering about the more throat style speaking seen when we first go to Salusa Secundus. I will rewatch. It's a curious design choice but one that sticks out to me because of recently enjoying Mongolian Throat Singing.

The throat singing was all done by one musician, Michael Geiger. If you google him you'll find lots of stuff about it, including YouTube videos.

Disney is still putting their stuff up on Disney+ pretty quickly after it's in theaters. And the Northman popped up on Peacock pretty quickly after it was in theaters.
I think the standard post-Covid is 45 days.

Like JD said, Disney is doing it for their Marvel properties and I believe some others as well. And don't forget that their are other platforms that are willing to buy movies, and not just US Domestic. The USA has a lot more streaming channels than say the Netherlands, where I live. Netflix worldwide is still paying studios for rights to stream movies worldwide.

So yes, revenue from streaming is very much a big part of it.

Agreed, but selling 1/4 scale statues of Muad'dib does seem appropriate book wise.
