Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

I wouldn’t be surprised if new scenes (with Margot and Feyd) are being made for Part 1 as well, with a Godfather Saga-esque extended edition in the not-too-distant future.

I think Villeneuve stated that he doesn't plan on doing a Director's Cut or something like it and regards his Dune movie as the definitive cut ( they filmed material though for many more hours which didn't make it into the movie). I'm fine with it, the first movie is great as it is and i'd rather not he Lucas it and change things every few years.

Once can never know though, the studio might get greedy and start messing around but if there are no scenes filmed to be retroactively included then we're safe.

First of all, this looks like a fan film of the same crappy quality as many of the Star Trek fan films that happen to score an actor from the professional production who agrees to participate for whatever the minimum pay is. It should be painfully obvious that it's a crappy fan film since it's filmed at the Vasquez Rocks site where so many TOS and westerns (ie. some Bonanza episodes) were shot.

It's not a fan film, but (most likely) a 'mockbuster' made by the infamous film studio The Asylum (known for the equally infamous Sharknado movies, but also for this version of the first novel of the classic John Carter stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, set in the present day and set on a planet outside of Earth's solar system called Barsoom.)

As for Sean Young nearly missing out on playing Chani in Lynch's movie, yes, that's real. Her agent screwed up by not keeping her informed on a meeting she was to have with the director and producer, and each party thought the other had stood them up. By a weird coincidence they all ended up on the same plane, got introduced, and had their meeting right there. This account is related in Ed Naha's book The Making of Dune (fantastic book detailing the ups and downs of that movie, and doesn't gloss over the stuff that went wrong).

That's a great and interesting story.

I would like for Villeneuve, Legendary, and Warners to do this, as it would put more life into the movie (there are some fans of the novels who don't like it [but like the SyFy miniseries] because it
doesn't have enough for them compared with the miniseries, like the banquet scene.) The not having these extra scenes only reinforces my belief that the major Hollywood film studios should bring back the roadshow theatrical release of a major film like this one, so that the complete version of a film could be shown (perhaps that could eventually be an expanded version on home video.)

They always give their mockbusters titles that are very, very similar to the real movies, so I've often wondered how many people have sent clueless family members to buy them movies like Pacific Rim or Transformers, and ended up with Atlantic Rim or Transmorphers.

I don't see that on the list of The Asylum movies on Wikipedia, but they did do one called American Warships that it says was their version of Battleship.

I'd lean toward Harah even though again she's a pretty minor character.

Villeneuve doesn't seem to lean towards creating extraneous characters and a female Fedaykin would fall very much into that category and I don't recall anything from the book that such a character could bring the screen.

Oh, FFS. More genderswapping, and this idiot claims he's being faithful to the book.

The Fedaykin were not female. None of them, and if Villeneuve is going to use the excuse of Harah being among the fighters in the Lynch movie, that's Lynch's screwup since Harah was Alia's nursemaid when she was a child and later married Stilgar. If he's using the excuse of "not enough strong women" again... he needs to re-read the damn book. There are plenty of strong women.

I foresee like $150 million domestic for this movie. Probably $350 million worldwide where such movies sometimes make more. That would be just barely enough to cover its budget, but hey - its being made! We'll get an an ending! That's what really matters. Thanks WB!

I'm not playing the box office guessing game anymore. Since Covid it's ridonkulously random. The only stuff that's reliable to guesstimate is Marvel movies opening huge, having a big 2nd week drop, but continuing to rake in cash all the way up to their Disney + release date.

It doesn't work like this anymore. Streaming revenue is part of it now. Even before covid, many movie watchers gave a big 'fuck you' to rowdy cinema crowds and way too expensive snacks and drinks. Rather wait a couple of weeks and watch it at home than pay three times as much for a 'cinematic experience'.
After 6 months, streaming revenue will be taken into account and even then we'll never know if the movie made or lost money.
