So much fun! I totally agree it could've used one or two more eps to breathe. And who knew Zoe would have such a big part to play in the finale?

FWIW, the Capt. Marvel poster that looked just like Brie looked like Adam Hughes art to me.

I was a bit dubious about the show in the beginning. I enjoyed Fresh Off The Boat and loved Kim's Convenience and was worried this would just rehash old jokes. Instead it was an engaging story about Pakistani families making a new start in Jersey with really lovable characters.

I was dubious about yet another teen high school fantasy/sci fi drama that I've already seen in Buffy, Smallville, Sabrina, Star Girl, et al. What I got, yes, all the standard teen scenes and relationships, but it still seemed a bit fresh because the kids were so well written and so well acted.

I was dubious that Kamala's powers/origins would just be a rehash of what we've seen before, but it stuck to a unique look at South Asian history, culture, and mythology, without any reference to much else Marvel except a last minute reference to mutation.

I've enjoyed a fresh story with lovable characters, one of the best TV dads ever, a wonderful look at an immigrant culture and religion without proselytizing, and an intriguing finale with a link to a major Marvel hero.

All in all, well above expectations, no disappointments, and a hunger for more.

Zoe turning up out of nowhere totally reminded me of Cordelia's entrance in the first season finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

    It was interesting hearing about

The X-Men reference, and seeing the clip online

Hopefully it comes to something in The Marvels or another project down the line. I'm still not going to watch the show, but I'm glad it set up something for the Captain Marvel sequel and possibly beyond that, which at least gives the show a bit of relevance beyond just being a MCU YA show..

Well, the X-Men do have a certain fiery member who went by 'Marvel Girl' at first...

I really enjoyed this show, and I'm looking forward to The Marvels. Honestly, IMO this is the best thing Disney's produced since The Mandalorian. I certainly enjoyed it more than Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, or Moon Knight.

My sister tested positive for covid earlier this week, so I'm in something of an unofficial quarantine downstairs until Monday. Unfortunately Disney+ is only set up on the TV upstairs, so I'm late on Ms Marvel and must not read this thread yet. I write this largely as a reminder to myself.

One detail I just noticed on a re-watch: The Statue of Liberty is green! (also: sans shield.) So that either means that they ditched the stupid shield after all and then it oxidised again *really* quickly (like a decade or two faster than the first time around) or this show takes place before 'No Way Home', 'Hawkeye' & 'Multiverse of Madness'.

Not that it matters much in how it'll line up with 'The Marvels' (the post credit scene could have taken place a month, or a year after the show for all we know), so it's mostly just out of curiosity on my part; but did any spot any indication of when the show takes place, besides being long enough after the blip for things to mostly get back to a version of "normal" and as stated, likely before they even started work of renovating Lady Liberty. Season wise it didn't seem like Winter, so it may have been vaguely concurrent to 'Long Way From Home' I guess?

I suppose it could have just been a VFX oversight (not an oversight by the VFX artists mind, just that they were never instructed to include it.) In a similar vein, I noticed a few shots of Manhattan where the Metlife building was visible and yet; no Avengers Tower (or are they calling it the Baxter Building yet?) So it possible it just slipped through.

As much as I liked the series and especially the finale, I think it could have benefitted from one main adversary - either Kajma or Agent Deever of the DODC. Instead, the series seemed to flip-flop between both as the "Big Bad", as if the writers could not make up their minds. And yes, it could have also benefitted from at least two more episodes.

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta directed the mid-credits scene with Brie Larson.

"So, that was actually — Nia DaCosta shot that while she was shooting The Marvels. She was on set with Brie Larson and Iman, and she didn't know that scene was going to be used for the post-credit scene. Marvel is very good in separating all the things. So, we would always ask Kevin [Feige], "Yo, when's Captain Marvel going to show up?" And he would always tell us, "Don't worry about it. You'll see." Meanwhile, he has said to Nia DaCosta, "Just shoot that scene. We need that. And you'll see." And all of a sudden, when we were calibrating the final episodes after the credits, we said, "Oh. There's Captain Marvel." So that was a big surprise for us, as well. But it was pretty cool. It was pretty cool."

Yeah, I noticed the normalcy of the Statue of Liberty, too. I figure the easiest explanation is what happened: No one really put any thought into that brief shot. And you know what? I'm fine with it.

Oh me too. It just seemed a little curious to me given how many times they made sure to weave it into the background of Hawkeye. Makes me wonder if it's an artefact of the release order reshuffle, or just an oversight.

Come to think of it the Netflix shows were oddly stubborn about putting Metlife square in the middle of establishing shots and not replacing it with Avengers town. Particularly weird considering that it featured so prominently in some of the early promotional material for Daredevil and Jessica Jones both (don't recall if they did a version of that poster for Nick Cage too, though I doubt it since I don't think it's even visible from Harlem.) Almost as if the shots were designed to show it off, but for whatever reason they decided not to bother with it.
Similarly that iconic recreation of the cover art (I think?) of Kamala sitting on a lamp post looking out across the Hudson at Manhattan from Jersey City seemed tailor made to show Avengers tower. I mean it's supposed to be *right there* in centre right frame, no?

Like I say, doesn't bother me since you basically just have to squint and pretend it's there, and problem solved! I just sometimes wonder at the inconsistence of it.

It's got to be weird to be a cog in the Marvel machine. Hopefully it's just weird details and not more intrusive though I suppose the pay's good either way.

@Reverend I think the most glaring example of Marvel television exhibiting the MetLife building was actually on Agents of SHIELD. In one episode there is a scene that has Glenn Talbot addressing the United Nations and talking about how there were aliens coming through the portal above New York and how The Avengers saved everybody. However, the establishing shot of that scene was a New York skyline that prominently featured the MetLife building rather than Stark tower, a location that is being actively spoken about in the dialogue.

Did Ammi not consult Kamala on the design of her own costume? Kamala reacted like it came out of nowhere.

At least it was better than the “Little Hulk” costume.

So… Kamala punches a hole in the ground, Kamran drops into it… and then what? Did the hole connect with a sewer or some other kind of underground tunnel?

I mean five seconds glancing around Kamala's room probably gave her all the reference material and inspiration she needed for the colour scheme and design cues she'd ever need. She's clearly a talented seamstress so she clearly knows what she's doing.

Exactly. The point of the scene is that her mother is making her a costume that fits with Kamala's tastes, pays homage to her hero, and looks like a super-hero should. It is her mother coming around and respecting her daughter as an individual.

It all worked out since Kamala ended up liking what she came up with, but it still seems like would have been right to offer her the opportunity for some input.
