Dos he actually wear a suit? Or is it a Yaphet thing?

It was nice to get some of the humor back. Something that has been missing in most of the other season 3 episodes

I half expected that Isaac would get emotions and not love Dr. Finn. But, as to the main story. Gosh, you think you've got something figured out. The Kaylon are Franknstein monsters that went on a murder spree against their creators. But, then we see that their creators were, well, major dicks. Even the kids. Yeah, they didn't deserve to die for that, but it becomes a lot more understandable.

I read the D+ description for the episode before watching, and instantly guessed that the Kaylon would have emotions.

The “I’ll do it” made me LoL. I’m sure most men would say that in that situation. :)

A lifetime of slavery will cause people to go to extremes, because slavery itself is an extreme. That said, yeah, killing the kids was too much, IMO, and the Kaylon believing that all biological beings would act the same way to excuse their genocide is too much.

Oh, certainly, but kids can still be taught, they can change. Adults who take pleasure in causing pain to innocents, people who have no power in the social dynamic, they're harder to convince to change, at least peacefully.

Which brings up then: WHY BUILD THE THING if literally your entire ethics committee says, "Never do anything."

My sister tested positive for covid earlier this week, so I'm in something of an unofficial quarantine downstairs until Monday. Unfortunately Disney+ is only set up on the TV upstairs, so I'm late on The Orville and must not read this thread yet. I write this largely as a reminder to myself.

Hope your sister gets better soon. I think you will like Ms Marvel when you see it.

Maybe if they had actual sex rather than tv sex, he wouldn’t get hurt as much.
Seriously… what were they doing under the sheets? :)

I meant Orville, sorry. I haven't seen the most recent episodes of either due to this, and just copied and pasted this message to both this thread and the Ms Marvel thread and forgot to edit it.

    A lifetime?

The murdered kids looked exactly the same as they did when the droid arrived.

    It was the same family?

And the female executive was the mother from the beginning?

Which means that the beginning was misleading if she was making Robots as a job, she should have gotten 5 Robots for free months or years before you could buy them at box stores.

If the Mother/Executive was given the prototype soul whip, months or years before it was mass produced and globally distributed...

I think its possible that what we saw was the first slave, who was the first robot to be soul whipped, and when he led his up rising, the extermination of 40 billion Kaylon, it was only a week since his enslavement began, and 2 or three days since they started soul whipping him.

Further more if robots were a luxury item for the entitled middle class and up, then there couldn't have been more than 10 thousand of them in circulation, if they'd been selling robots for a decade, which seems like a stretch.

So unless there was a government contract, and they were still only beta testing, the only thing that executive was really worried about, the failure of his company, was presales and the R&D that went into perfecting robots, and stockpiling recourses to build thousands more Robots for future sales.

    So...

The poor, even the middle class, 70 percent of the species, who could have never been able to afford and mistreat a Robot were also exterminated.

We also got to wonder if this planet had countries. Might be other non-slave approving countries out their that rejected the idea of robot slaves.

I imagine the entire planet might have treated Kaylons as slaves or at least nobody supported their emancipation. It would explain why the Kaylons treated all their creators as evil and assumed that all alien species are the same and deserving of extermination. If some countries were anti Kaylon slavery, why would the Kaylons still exterminate all their creators, even the ones who opposed their slavery? If there were some areas of the planet that supported Kaylon emancipation, then that puts the Kaylons in worse light because it means they did exterminate everyone, even their creators who were allies.

The Kaylon decided to destroy all life in the Galaxy because Ed said something like "We see you as a threat".

    They are a sensitive bunch.

"Charlize Theron" comes from centuries ahead where the Kaylon never attacked the Union because Ed didn't threaten them by saying that he felt threatened.

Of course the Kaylon did attack in the alt timeline where Ed and Kelly never got married, so the problem may be about Issac not delivering his report on the Union in the Pria timeline, as much as Ed being aggressive in the regular timeline.

    ...

    Edit.

Yes, what you are saying is obviously the story that Seth tried to tell, but I am being an asshole in pointing out how he failed to tell that story, probably because of editing, time and money, where he accidentally told a different story by mistake, which is unfortunate for Mr McFarlane because now the wrong story is canon.

I'd have to watch the episode again, but it should be pretty easy to poke holes in my faithless rendition of this story.

    Here's something to consider.

All the Robots didn't have to have to have been soul whipped.

When the hero networked with the rest of his species he dumped his logs on every one.

"Hey everybody, this is what they are doing to me. It's awful. Are they doing it to you?"

By reading/experiencing the logs of the hero about being soul whipped a hundred times, that means that every Robot on Kaylon was "virtually" soul whipped as many times as the first Robot hero had been soul whipped by the Kaylon, every time they read/experienced those logs.

So a beta test model robot had been soul whipped by a beta test soul whip, and the soul whipped robot shared the pain of his experience with enough other robots, enough times, that 3 days of 2 children whipping one robot half a dozen times, felt like the oppression of an entire planet for a million years against an entire species.

The awful thing is that they are probably still sharing that log/file, and still being soul whipped every time they read/experience the file/log, and will keep doing so until the end of time.

Hell. They all might do it hundreds of times a day.

What i don't get concerning the Kaylon service bots - if the company knew they'd develop self awareness why not regularly ( maybe on a weekly basis) mind wipe/reset their higher logical functions? Shouldn't the problem be solved by reverting them to factory state and just keep basic information about the family they serve, such as what they like to eat, their habits and such?

Also - what did Mercer & Co think starting diplomacy with such a big lie? I'm no diplomat but even i know that this is the completely wrong way to go about it - starting a relationship with a deception is a huge No, better be upfront about the differences and then try to find common ground. Boggles my mind.

All considered there were 3 storylines running alongside each other, it's a but much. I'm not sure what deal they have with Hulu but shorten the episodes to the standard 42 minutes format, do an A and B storyline per episode and increase the amount of episodes slightly - could work out better but then i'm no entertainment professional and don't know the reality of show production.

Also good to see they'd not completely abandon the humor, it was quite funny in this episode. If they keep it at that level and have humor in appropriate scenes it would be great.

Imagine if your servant could not ever remember how you like your coffee or where your children go to school everytime you tell your servant to pick up your kids or make you a coffee.

This is why i wrote to reset them by keeping the data about the family they serve intact. I don't see how the information that the father of the family likes his coffee black should prevent higher function resets.
