Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I guess I'm in the minority that I like both the TOS and SNW versions of the Enterprise. The SNW Enterprise is a total hotrod and has a lot of cool refinements, but there's also a classic grace to the TOS Enterprise that can never be taken away.
They both look like really nice spaceships.

More than I can say for a lot of Trek designs, or science fiction in general. They don't look cool. They look nice, like basic sea going vessels.

It honestly doesn't.

And this comes from a guy who owns several models of it and has the cross section hanging above my bed.
To each his own as I'll take the original TOS series design over that gleaming whit TMP Movie Era refit design any day.

It's 4th after:

1) TOS (TV series)
2) Disco-Prize (used in SNW)
3) JJ-Prise
4) TMP-Refit 1701/1701-A

But yeah to each his own. I thought the Connie CGI model used in ENT S4 In A Mirror Darkly - Looked GREAT and it also could have worked for both STD and SNW if the producers had decided to go with it (Hell, they kept the FUGLY 1701-D in STP S1 and that is one of the worst looking Trek designs after the USS Excelsior aka The Flying Bathtub - which is what myself and friends called it when we first saw STIII:TSFS in the theatre in 1984.)

I liked the SNW Enterprise when it played the Peregrine. It does a good job of playing a different class of starship that was built with Connie parts.

It's not a huge flaw, it's the nature of the entertainment business. And Star Trek is a nearly 60-year old entertainment franchise, not an actual historical documentary.
Marvel and Star Wars seem to be managing okay. Even Doctor Who always brings back the right Tardis when a classic Doctor reappears.

That would be sad as the TOS Enterprise still looks pretty good even today, IMHO.
Not nearly good enough to be the hero ship. They reworked it FOR TMP, they've reworked it for SNW.

The SNW version sill isn't my favorite, but man is it detailed.

I disagree. With some subtle details the TOS Enterprise can still function as a hero ship. Otoy's rendering of the Enterprise in their 765874 youtube video and the TOS Enterprise appearance in "Trials and Tribblations" still work for me. Obviously YMMV.

Marvel doesn't really have anything to change, and most of Star Wars involves trapsing around different planets.
Even Doctor Who always brings back the right Tardis when a classic Doctor reappears.
And Doctor Who is constantly changing and updating the current TARDIS. And they've used quite a lot of different police boxes (different heights, widths, and shades of blue) for the TARDIS exterior since its inception.

You mean how the MCU turned Tony Stark effectivly into Reed Richards becauuse they didn't have the rights to teh Fantastic Four (film-wise) when they started?

Or introduced Black Panther in The Avengers/Captain America III - when in actuality (IE in the 60s) he first appeared in an issue of the Fantastic Four; and the same with The Inhumans (tied to SHIELD in the current MCU) when (again) they first appeared in the pages of the FF?

And Kang The Conquerer tied to Loki when (again) he first appeared as Rama-Tut in the pages of the Fantastic Four...

Or Klaw - Master of Sound again tied to the Avengers when he too first appeared in the Fantastic Four...

(Seeing the pattern here...?)

Yep, the MCU isn't re-imagining of changing a thing from the way the actual Marvel Comics Universe started things...oh, wait... ;)

The SNW Enterprise looks like it is the Sombra class a separate class which was built after the NX class, but before the TOS Constitution class. And on a personal note, I find the design to be quite dull and boring, at least compared to the interior sets.

Externally, it looks exactly the same to me.

It doesn't look real.
Fine, 90s Star Trek seems to be managing okay. Even Enterprise always brings back the right Enterprise.
And makes adjustments in other ways. There are always changes going on to the Enterprise, to the design in some way to make it work, or updates for the sake of it. That's the nature of Trek. This isn't Star Wars, Stargate, or whatever. Star Trek updates when it deems it wants to.
