A better way to express why I did not like the ending.

If you mind control the crew to take roles in a silly story, you need to win the story. Like they did in Our Man Bashir. Not godmode it.

If anything it might be similar to "Clues(TNG)" where Picard ensures that only Data retains a memory of incidents on his Enterprise but no temporal reset is used to prevent the bizarre mysteries that occur aboard the ship from having happened.

If I had just entrusted my daughter to an alien entity I just met with no independent knowledge of that entity's true nature, I wouldn't tell anybody either.
I love that! :guffaw: Definitely not a decision to be proud of. Particularly when the evidence he had was negative. As in, the entity didn't understand or care about the danger it had created and Hemmer's "it could have killed me."

Of course, they tacked on the ham-fisted return visit to make sure we knew it was the right choice.

I didn't have a problem with the story they were trying to tell to resolve Rukiya's plight. The sci-fi resolution they were going for could have worked well if they had taken the time and effort to tell the whole story. They failed to demonstrate, over the course of several episodes, that she was physically deteriorating and running out of time. They didn't show M'Benga's growing frustration over the course of the arc with his inability to make progress. They didn't explore the "Debra" entity enough to determine that it was truly benevolent and that M'Benga should trust it. Instead they spent most of their creative capitol on the fantasy/fun aspect of the rest of the cast's fantasy role playing exhibition. I could have enjoyed an episode that lets the cast have fun, but not at the expense of the more important story of Rukiya's restoration. And as you said, the "ham-fisted return visit" was, it seems to me, just a fig leaf to cover for all the things they neglected to tell of her story.

You can play dumb, but we both know you're intelligent enough to understand the message. You just don't want to admit it.
Pointing out how you're evading a question isn't "playing dumb", and there's no "message" in being evasive. You answered with a reverse of my own reply because you didn't want to address the obvious.

The fact of the matter is that this sort of juxtaposition regularily happens in fiction, making your original complaint silly.

Are you sure? Let me help. He was dressed like this:

I mean, I was warmed up.

Meh

Judging by her Twitter comments on the subject, I suspect she'd be happy to help with that.
Googled her as I didn't recognise the name (I pick up character names really quickly but actor names I am shocking with) and I am stunned to find out that she is only a couple of years off 40.

If you'd told me she was anywhere between about 27 and 32 I wouldn't have questioned it.

In conclusion - I wish I was ageing that well!

I'm enjoying the show overall, but I hope we get to see a more commanding side of Captain Pike as well. Thus far he has been mostly chummy (or downright silly, like this week). That style of command can generate really intense loyalty. Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Saru, etc. had playful moments on the bridge, but with all of them you could also see when the time for fun and games was over. They got serious, and the crew had to hop to it or get barked at. We haven't seen that much with Pike, although perhaps I'm forgetting some stuff from Disco S2. Obviously there are different command styles, but I would think all captains would need to display this mode from time to time.

Really good ep but it has to be watched all the way through. I've read that some have bailed on it halfway through as being "too silly". Their loss.
So Rukiya apparently is now in a place without linear tine, judging by her appearing as an adult seconds after she departs. Immediately made me wonder if she's eventually Ben Sisko's mother.

Enjoyed it. Not my favorite but a classic style episode. Mount's over the top cowardly lion acting and Navia's DND tank brought to life were easily my favorites. If they ever do a SNW/Wizard of Oz episode, I think I know who all the parts are going to.

Navia chews up scenery but sometimes subtly in just about every scene. The real duo on the bridge might be Pike and Ortegas.
