Discovery Needs To Go Ahead And DO THE THING

Well, we are Trek fans. Focusing on minor inane details is kind of our thing.

That's my point.

And, I'm invested in Star Trek. But, I want to go forward, not rehash old powers and "Where are they now?" type stuff. If I never see Klingons again I would be just fine.

Hey, I would've started Discovery in the 32nd century and taken it from there. I'd ban time travel stories and prequels for at least 5 years. You can't expect me to not be curious though. I don't need to see Klingons per se. However, if you told me the Klingons all got a genetic disease and died out as Kronos was overtaken by self-aware Tribble warlords....I'd nerd tf out and analyze it for no fewer than 3 hours.

Where did this info come from?
Reading the threat yields the answer:
The map of the Alpha Quadrant in Admiral Clancy's office places Cardassia and Bajor within Federation borders. Though it gets odd, since there apparently is still a DMZ around Cardassia, which there shouldn't be if Cardassia were a Federation member. Then again, you'd think the DMZ would have been disbanded once the Dominion War started.

What happened to the Klingons,

Someone should ask the Orions, since they used to buddies in the 23rd century. Or the Federation, sicne they were allies in the 24th and it was projected that the Klingons were a part of the Federation by the 26th century.

the Gorn, ?

What happened between Cardassia and Bajor?

I suppose… really good, if Rallik is anything to go by. The Cardassians are still around, at least. Maybe someone from Discovery should catch up with them, since the Federation was familiar with them in the 23rd century in both the prime timeline and the Kelvin timeline.

What are the Ferengi like now?

Beats me. No one bothered to talk to the Ferengi seen in S4.

Are any descendents of characters we know around?

How often do we see the descendants of characters over a hundred years removed in these shows?

Where's the Enterprise?

The last one likely got blown up in The Burn. They probably haven’t built a new one yet.

Who is Dax now?

Well, is the Dax symbiont still around to begin with? Even if the symbionts live for a thousand years, a lot can still happen in a thousand years.

Who lost the Temporal Cold War and what was the punishment?

Clearly not the Federation and the Vulcans/Ni’Varans as they are still around. Thanks Archer! :bolian:

Time travel is banned. We know that from S3. Wonder how the Krenim are taking it, since time travel was their thing?

It was never revealed which member worlds were threatening to leave the Federation if they helped the Romulans evacuate from the impending supernova.

Maybe Cardassia was one of them, and it renewed hostilities to the point that the DMZ was re-established.

I doubt post-Dominion Cardassia was in much of a position to protest anything. Indeed, I'm pretty sure as soon as a new government was established after the War, I would think they immediately petitioned for Federation membership, knowing they'd have better luck dealing with the Federation than they would the Klingons and the Romulans.

Regardless, even if the Cardassians did make some noise against the Romulan Evacuation, I doubt they'd have enough of a military left to pose a threat to Starfleet. And regardless, why establish aDMZ around Cardassia and not the other thirteen member worlds threatening to secede?
Reading the threat yields the answer:
Thank you for answering the question this time. I'm getting tired of everyone not being patient enough to keep reading and see the answer for themselves.

I know I totally speak for myself here (and it's likely an unpopular sentiment)...but I've never cared much for Star Trek diving too deep into the intergalactic politics of where the various other powers are all at. I just don't care. I want to see outer space adventures. I don't want to watch West Wing or Game of Thrones in space.
Here we absolutely disagree.

I was utterly burned out on boldly going planet of the week stories. That's why DS9 was so wonderful - a deeper look at the world(s), the political ebb and flow, the bigger picture.

I'm about ready to engage in a little boldly planet-going again with SNW, especially after lacklustre last seasons of Disco and Picard, but yeah, galactic politics, shifting allegiances, seeing where next... It's what lights my candle.

I have no problem with some “where are they now” stories, if they come organically from the writers room. If someone comes up with a creative idea for a story, they should go for it. But if they go into it with a pre defined objective of telling a story about the Klingons, I think the result will be crap.

It has to make sense for DSC to cover it. If it looks like something that would fit the series and serves the purpose of the episode in the question, I'm fine with it. If it's there just to be part of a Wish List and nothing else, then I'm not. It's a very fine line.

It was just an idea. There are very few reason that would make sense for the DMZ to continue on for 25 years.
  • The Cardassian and the Federation both claim territories in that sector
  • The Klingons, due to Cardassian territory reverting back to them in accordance with the Treaty of Bajor, claim certain territories in the DMZ that are in dispute with both the Federation and Cardassian
  • The Federation - after offing a 24th century Marshall Plan to rebuild Cardassia - became expansionist in the aftermath of the war after the Cardassians refused Federation membership, to be more proactive in addressing the issues that led to the rise of the Maquis.
  • A Cardassian resistance – in the spirit of the Maquis – came about in the aftermath of the Dominion War
  • Bajor becoming a member of the Federation riled up some hardliners within the Cardassian Union

The temporal cold war was awful and the less said about that the better. I hope it's never revisited beyond what was stated in Discovery already about time travel being banned.

I would like some more world building in Discovery - not necessarily a klingon episode, followed by a ferengi episode - but maybe they have to go to Klingon space for something..and through an episode we learn something about the Klingons and how the empire has changed. In the season 4 episode where we saw the Ferengi he could have had a line or a few lines that would indicate the state of their people.

How about allegorical stories where Ukraine is Russia, Bajor is Ukraine, and the Federation is NATO?

Definitely not an unpopular opinion with me. The worst thing that happens to a Star Trek show is when they take the Star Trek out of Star Trek. As an example, some of the later TNG season episodes and a lot of season 7. They decided to go bonkers with guest stars who took the focus away from the crew and yet more character development.
