Seems to me the table has been set for a season of exploring THE THING.

What else is there... Another Earth, Sector 1, Alpha Quadrant, entire Galaxy spanning crises? No thank you.

So yeah, let's take some time to breathe here, get to know the old neighborhood again.

Picard Season 1 didn't have anything that implied that.

I'd love it if they had a new Dax on Discovery, and do everything they can to not make it like, omg there's a Dax! Just have them be a new character and add them to the show. No history lessons, no crazy connections, just a Dax being Dax. One or two lines of, "I've been in Starfleet for a VERY long time," and then just rely on the actor and writers to make up a new chapter in the character's life without forcing the show to be about their past. Maybe it's their quirk to now call others "Old Man" rather than have that be their name, in memory of an old old friend. Things like that.

The way they go through Enterprises these days, it's more likely the Enterprise-W at this point!

They should make the Klingons into pacifists and farmers.

The map of the Alpha Quadrant in Admiral Clancy's office places Cardassia and Bajor within Federation borders. Though it gets odd, since there apparently is still a DMZ around Cardassia, which there shouldn't be if Cardassia were a Federation member. Then again, you'd think the DMZ would have been disbanded once the Dominion War started.

With the catchphrases and abbreviations we've had so far - the Burn, the DMA, 10-C, etc. - might as well add "the Thing" to the list!

The Enterprise in DSC would be more like NCC-301701-G.

I don't think we'll get another Enterprise on a Beyer show. She's a Voyager fangirl and it looks like she's making sure that her favorite ship gets its moment in the sun. I'm assuming this is to angle for a potential spinoff. Most folks want an Enterprise, and we'll eventually get one.

I saw it! The fanfilm Gods and Men, with a very Trek-alumni production staff, used "M" as in Museum, to represent a TOS Connie and explain why a post-Generations adventure was still on the TOS fan sets. Heh.

    Source?

Well, interstellar...unless you're saying you hate it when the engage the Kelvins in diplomacy...or the species from Catspaw...

If so maybe the new Enterprise can be one of the first ships to launch from the new Archer spacedock.

Only M? They were already at J before the end of the 26th century...

They got the Kelvans drunk and beat them up. That's diplomacy?

Let's be honest. This show is the direct result of nerds nerding. This isn't 1992 casual syndicated Trek (which was by Berman and Trek was its most successful). The actual ratings for these shows would be anemic. Paramount+ in general is subsidized by hardcore Trek fan subs and I'd bet my house on it. If you think people are paying for subs because of Michael Burnham and not the name "Star Trek" then we disagree.

So yeah I think people do want to know. They fanwank so much as it is, just fill in some relevant stuff instead of making everything about Khan.

We disagree about a lot of things. This isn't the first time and it won't be the last. And what you just said about Burnham, combined with the original post, tells me all I need to know about where you stand.

I like Discovery because it's Discovery. I would've stopped watching it years ago, just like I stopped Voyager, Enterprise, and Lower Decks, if I didn't like it.

As far as the "fanwanking", you already got as much about the Temporal War as you're going to get. The ENT writers dropped the idea at the beginning of their fourth season -- an idea that was forced on them by UPN, I might add -- and the DSC writers didn't want to touch it and hand-waved it off. This isn't a story they're interested in telling and I don't blame them. It's in DSC's past and behind them, timeline-wise. Let it stay in the rear-view mirror.

If you want to see it so bad, who knows, maybe they'll have some other Star Trek series about it. You can wait over there with everyone else who didn't get what they want.

EDITED TO ADD: If you want to see what people here think about them doing something with the Temporal Cold War, look in this thread right here. You don't have to take my word for it, you can just see the level of "enthusiasm" for yourself. Almost no one wants it. That's why I can confidently say 99% of us don't give a shit.

If I remember right, even ENT Fans were sick of the Temporal War by the time it was dropped from the series.

I don't know what else we disagree about. I get the impression you don't know where I stand at ALL though. I do, however, miss good old-fashioned misplaced internet snarkiness on these boards. Reminds me of the good old days after episodes of Enterprise.

I like Discovery too. Many do seem to hate it for some reason. None of this being the point. Michael is cool, but I seriously doubt there are multiple Trek series on TV because the popularity of Michael Burnham can't be contained. It's because it's Trek.

You're way too focused on a minor detail of what I said and not the whole. I want to know more about what happened to the stuff I've invested in for decades. Fill in the background of the 50 year picture that's been created.

I can confidently say that many of us would eat up backstory on damn near anything in this universe, hence the reason there's a thread about it at all. I don't even care about Enterprise for the most part, it was just an example. One that really sticks in your craw for some reason .

I think I'll wait right here, but thank you for the suggestion.

Well, we are Trek fans. Focusing on minor inane details is kind of our thing.

And, I'm invested in Star Trek. But, I want to go forward, not rehash old powers and "Where are they now?" type stuff. If I never see Klingons again I would be just fine.
