No, no. Just the Gorn ship was hiding using one. Were all the colonists holograms?

Yes, it's exactly that. Basically, Kirk wanted to know if the video was a deep fake or what really transpired.Sounded more to me like Kirk questioning the accuracy of the image in terms of events in detail not what Pike looks like.
Ah ok. The colonists seemed to disappear from the episode! So, I wasn't sure. That works better in a practical sense. No, no. Just the Gorn ship was hiding using one.
That was my thoughts too. I enjoyed the SNW episode, but BoT is the greater story of those two. This is basically SNW's version of Balance of Terror and Arena but more BOT.
Your first point...well, it's Star Trek. What do you expect, common sense?(I will say I was sad it took Pike to ask the question before they both thought - "Oh yeah, if we're wearing space suits, we can survive a decompression of the main cargo bay...")
Really happy that as far as I'm concerned SNW is 4 for 4 out of the gate. Aside from some minor nit picks here and there, all 4 to date have been GREAT Star Trek and very entertaining.

Who knows. An updated TOS almost seems like a logical follow up series for SNW whenever it ends.Watching TOS now it is very dated (and in universe stupid) having most of the stories and landing party focus solely around Kirk, McCoy and Spock. An ensemble setting works much better. Pike, Spock and Una not always being a part of the landing party or focus does not make the episodes less entertaining.
That just goes to show how much to the background they were pushed. There really should've been something a bit more to close their story. Still a strong story. You see them in sickbay
It really was. I'm not a stickler for that, but that was clearly the intention of the dialog.
However, I'm fine with Kirk appearing. Although, if he becomes a member of the Enterprise crew in the 2nd season, that's a bridge too far!
Amen! And I'm not even religious. But, yes, these people are highly trained professionals who specifically signed up for exploration and these types of situations.I also need to say how refreshing it is to have a modern Trek show where everyone acts...like professionals. Too much of DIS and PIC (particularly in the season that just ended) involves grown adults with high-stakes jobs acting like adolescents in the middle of a major crisis, focusing on their own emotional turmoil rather than their freaking jobs.

Seems like you missed the whole point of Arena! Both the Enterprise and the Gorn were ready to destroy the other without finding out why. It wasn't until the Metrons intervened and Kirk found the reason that communication started. The Gorn were also being the aggressor. Being completely unreasonable
I agree to some extent. But, it would be next to impossible to not show Kirk. I'm ok with it. But hoping he's not posted to the Enterprise.Yeah if they pull that it will be ridiculous. They really shouldn't have Kirk I this at all. Its pikes time to shine.
Plenty of present/modern-day institutions communicate through forms of light.
Or make piss poor decisions. Just ask General Lee, a tactical genius, about Pickett's charge. Let's charge across a long open field in broad daylight against a fortified position!Even experienced military commanders can be fooled by simple tactics, sometimes.
It's a good question though. Why would such an advance race with warp capable ships need to catch prey for food? That's not a very cost effect proposition. I suppose it could be tradition. But perhaps there's an underlying problem?Actually, I'm wondering if the Gorn has some kind of crisis that would make them risk an close encounter with a black hole for a few hundred folks, when they probably could find an undefended world with millions or billions of inhabitants. Hell, they could just find a M-Class planet with no humanoids, and great megafauna roaming across the landmasses, and in the seas.
I know...plot
