Ashes to Ashes BBC One Tonight

fade to grey im 75/25 on, & No more Heroes anymore.

& if Money is the one im thinking of, I know that one to.

Oh, God, it's the sound track to my youth! I've done homework, dated boys, snogged at the school disco and mooned over Lewis Collins to those tunes. Bring it on! :rommie:

80s music sounds as alien to me as that from the 70s, all I bought on tape in the 80s (my childhood) were those Weetbix tapes, anyone remember those?

Also, while the Quattro is pretty cool and suits Gene Hunt, will we see Alex in a Peugeot 205 Gti?

I like a few on there, but I can't say I know anywhere near all of them... I might buy it anyway though.

Well I thought that was one of the best, if not the best, episodes so far. Lots of classic Gene lines, and good come backs on Alex's part. Plus some nice little added snippets to the mystery.
Next week's looks like it's going to be interesting... and just what is with that clown?

Yeah last nights was good, Raymondo undercover made me laugh out loud. I thought they didn't beat us over the head as much as they could have done with the gay angle, and Marcus was a very empathetic character...loved his sub Daniel Day Lewis in My Beautiful Laundrette look though.

Considering I hated Ray in LOM, he's rapidly becoming one of my favourite things about ATA.

The clown is death surely?

You actually got to watch last nights (Thursday 6th) episode? Here in Scotland we had to have it cancelled until Sunday because of bloody football (soccer for US). At least the upside is I got to experience an episode of Numbers on another channel, a series I have never watched, to fill in the time before Terminator came on on Virgin 1.

When will they ever learn that they can't cancel a scheduled program for 90 mins to watch 22 guys kicking a damn ball about, it's ridiculous! :scream:

The HIV/AIDS thing at the end was a nice touch.
Out of curiosity, was there an "AIDS crisis" in England the same way that there was one in the US?

Yeah there was a big thing about it in the 80s... in fact they're saying we need another campaign like it now because STD/STIs are on the rise and no one seems to give a shit.

Basically the ad had John Hurt doing a voice over, something along the lines of "There's a new epidemic silently sweeping the country. It doesn't care about race, gender or sexuality. It will attack any body, at any time..." Practice safe sex... wear a condom, stuff like that.
And there was a guy chiselling AIDS in to a big slab of stone that looked like a grave stone.

It wasnt long after that we lost Freddie Mercury and Kenny Everett, it got a lot more high profile after that.

Firehawk12, The government never tried to blame it as a gay disease in their efforts to raise awareness, but I don't think the American government did that either did they?

Well, to be honest most of what I know about AIDS in American comes from "And the Band Played On", but the emphasis was on the gay community and how it spread from there.

I remember the AIDS awareness ads. Frightened the life out of me. But posters upthread are right, it was never aimed at or blamed on the gay community.

On the subject of last week's AtA (which I've only just caught) - real fivers! Honest to God, genuine fivers! When a fiver was worth something.

Have I mentioned how much I'm enjoying Ashes? :D

You're not the only one enjoying it. I've already pre-ordered the dvds and soundtrack. Wish I had a few real fivers that were worth something to pay for them.

I find it funny that I felt less waterboarded about homosexuality with this episode than I was with a typical episode of Torchwood, season one...
