Where and when: Outside US and Canada

So it wasn't just ne saving up my pocket money to go to HMV or WHSmith in town to pick up that months Voyager release

 

Me and my friend who lived on the same avenue had a deal, I bought the Voyager Cassettes and he bought the DS9, we would watch them together when we got them. We/I couldn’t afford to buy both, I probably skipped 2-3 school dinners per week to help fund my Star Trek addiction. I tried to make sure that I had £12.99 (then it went up to £13.99!) saved up by release date. This did indeed involve traveling on a bus in to town hehe, sometimes I did have to sneak though as I wasn’t allowed. My shop of choice back then HMV.

 

See, you can't blame everything on him! I wonder, I'm in Britain, so I should be getting P+ in four months or less. But, are there places that don't know when they will get it?

 

They were pissing off customers like us and me paying £12-14 per tape, or £170 a season. Inflation wise that's about £320 per season.

For USians, could you imagine someone willing to paying $15 per episode of Voyager?

For those who run a business, do you think that type of customer is someone you should nurture, or ignore?

The worst thing to happen to modern trek was a modern company like Netflix not buying paramount. Maybe they're waiting for the current management to continue to destroy the company to pick up the rights for cheap. (Paramount Global is work $19b, less than half what is was 5 years ago)

 

The fans don't trust them and they don't trust the fans. It's a vicious cycle that will continue to repeat until people stop watching.

 

In the US, when Voyager was released on VHS, we did pay $14.95 per episode (and often over $15 with sales tax), IIRC. I lived in a remote mountain area without a UPN affiliate and was too cheap for cable.

 

Back then I was paying $30/month for cable and Star Trek was pretty much the only thing I was watching.
Even then, since I was working the 3-11pm shift at the hospital, I was mostly watching it taped on my VCR after midnight.

I was taping Stargate episodes as well, but I wasn't really bothered if I missed one of those episodes.
(cause I knew I could watch it on repeat within 24 hours on cable)

For quite awhile I had every single episode of TNG, DS-9, VOYAGER & ENTERPRISE on VHS that I taped, but I threw them all away back in the early 2000's when I started collecting the DVD's.

 

Well, when they pulled the plug on DIS.4 one day before start, I think they said P+ would start at the end of 2021 in many of the countries, then delayed to February 2022. Then, it actually was February, but nothing happened. So, then the release date changed to early 2022 and then to summer 2022. I guess right now the announcement is something like "two days after the Avatar 2 premiere".
Which means, they promised us, too, to get it within 4 months and they are so confident about it, that they repeat this statement now for 6 months already.

Basically, it now is at a point where as long as you haven't logged in to the service and seen the first video, you can't really believe any release date for P+ anymore.

 

Where are you?

Is there a rule of acquisition for that?

 

I was just going to post the June 22nd date. £6.99 a month, or just under £70 for a year is pretty reasonable, as I don't have Netflix anymore (more and more expensive with less of the shows I like to watch).

 

Did you get Netflix for Star Trek?

 

I used to get it for Discovery, and the older shows. Funnily enough, I signed up when DIS S4 was supposed to air, then obviously we heard about Paramount+ and I pulled the plug.

I used to love Netflix but I got to the point where everything I like was either canceled (still feel sore about The OA), or ending in the next two years. I can catch up at some point.

 

Looks like '2023' for South East Asia.

At least I still have TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT on Netflix in 'Nam.
