I'm still not sure how it's somehow better for them to "go global" in not nearly as many countries they originally reached with their Netflix deal for Trek and to then not even manage to "go global" in the countries they selected in time to feature their latest, much-hyped series.

It's usually the other way around if your business model is sound - FIRST you make sure you have collected ALL the international rights you need and THEN you launch your streaming service globally (maybe a week apart continent-wise so that your servers don't overload). But no, Paramount has to go down the "we butcher this in as many ways as possible, over and over again and we treat our international audience with as much disdain as humanly possible and then wonder why they ratio us on Twitter all the time" road because... reasons? :shifty:

I already have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Disney+ ... no way I'm gonna subscribe to Sky and Paramount, even if SNW would be a significant improvement over STD. But I'm gonna watch it anyway, one way or the other.

You only need to sub to one of those. Paramount+ is still going to have a seperate option.

The Sky+Paramount is just to save money if you already have Sky.

I actually really don’t want to subscribe to another streaming service. I’m hoping this show will be available to purchase on iTunes. Once I buy it I can watch it forever, whereas the moment I unsubscribe to P+ (as I’ll have to, I have to watch the pennies) I’ll have nothing. That said, when it launches I’ll probably subscribe for a month if only to see TMP directors edition before it’s released in September.

    Paramount continue to suck.

I'm hoping they relent again and put it on something else like they did for Discovery. If they're holding it to try and tempt viewers to sign up to Paramount+ when it's available in their region, I'm sceptical about how well that will work. People interested in the series will be able to find a way to watch it before that launch, just in a method that won't benefit Paramount.

I'm very happy to sign up to Paramount+, if it's actually available. Problem is that it isn't (yet).

Paramount is on a good track to make this show the most pirated in the world.

Imagine if Disney didn't make their MARVEL shows available at (roughly) the same time all over the world? Delaying the premiere days of shows was feasable, if annoying, in the nineties. It's utterly bonkers in the age of the internet, where pop culture conversation just moves on. Trek is hot right now. No one is gonna' talk in half a year about the premiere of a show that's 6 months old and the whole internet has already seen and closed the debate on.

Looks like Alex Kurtzman is also frustrated. This is about as aggressive as he can publicly state this.

So we can’t watch the pilot episode on May 5th in the UK? :klingon:

I am going to have to ‘watch’ and share in the joys of this exciting new series using my imagination… via all of your American spoilers! :bolian:

Perhaps we can have a ‘questions and answers’ style thread where the international fan base can ask questions about episodes to all of the American fans?

Given how incredibly quick Trek gif-makers are on Tumblr, that’s going to almost be like watching the episode live

Seems so scattershot. Disco was pulled from Netflix down here w/ no Paramount+ option or update on why the rollout was cancelled.

Now it appears a deal has been done with our government-owned broadcaster, with all 4 seasons of Discovery available on-demand, and we're getting SNW at the same time it rolls out in the US.

Yet you guys in the UK - obviously a *much* bigger market than ol' Hobbiton down here - nothing.

What’s Tumblr? You will have to post some links if they do.
    It’s not fair! :wah:

I know that DS9 was getting over a bit over 100,000 viewers in Australia in the late '90s, airing at 11pm three years behind - I remember it distinctly, as I saw it in a list of lowest-rated shows, and was quite traumatised. There's 0 chance that many people would be watching SNW on P+ in Australia.

Hmm. I don't do streaming usually (might have in this case but not anymore, see below) and have very little interest in checking out gifs of SNW on Tumblr, but here's the link for the most recent Strange New Worlds tagged posts (includes spoilers, obviously), which will most likely include gifs as soon as the first episode has aired: https://www.tumblr.com/search/strange new worlds/recent

It's a shame international fans are being treated like this. I was interested in maybe checking out SNW if they had put it on Pluto TV here in Germany (solely for Anson Mount because he's just so GORGEOUS) but by now I have lost all interest and am simply waiting for the DVDs/BluRays. Way to get rid of potential casual viewers like me, Paramount.

I am confident people in the UK will be watching SNW on May 5th.

Disney knows they have a global audience willing to give them money, they monetise legions of youtube channels to pump their trailers and shows - giving early access to allow the "45 new things you missed from Wandavision episode 8" to be out almost immediatly

Paramount region locks their stuff and relies on people acquiring the videos via alternate means. The only youtube stuff that rises to the top are the anti-trek videos about how bad it all is. It's a pathetic strategy. It's bad for business, and it's a sign of idiotic americentric 60 year old execs who have learned nothing.

I always complained about this when I was a child too, I hated getting the VHS cassette tapes a year after the American airing. The final straw was when Sky One started to show Voyager episodes BEFORE The VHS cassette releases. This was so unfair as I did not have Sky TV, instead relying on saving up my pocket money (and sometimes school dinner money - I even skipped lunches to get them!) for VHS cassette’s. Now all my friends at school could watch all of the latest episodes before me, luckily they didn’t give me any spoilers. Ah well!

Can confirm every single word here.

I as a Sir Patrick fan and news dude have incoming news etc. from Marvel/Disney from time to time (hehe) so I have a direct comparison and I must say it's SO DIFFERENT. Marvel/Disney videos are NEVER geoblocked and I can simply retweet trailers and interviews and whatnot wheras with PIC right now I always have to make sure I either find a non-geoblocked video on Youtube or SOMEONE uploads a non-geoblocked version to Twitter in the replies or the official Twitter account points to the official website with the trailer there... it's a massive hassle. I've actually given up. I don't have the time to go trailer-hunting all the time.

They even geoblock actor interviews that have literally NO scenes from the show whatsoever. :brickwall:

In short: Marvel/Disney vs. Paramount is a difference like day and night. Paramount is DECADES behind regarding user-friendliness, availability, promotional plans... everything. They accidentally leak trailers that get deleted then AND then they flag Trek fan accounts down for posting screencaps from the trailers. They work AGAINST the fans instead of WITH them. It's beyond me how and why they seem to think this is good business. They have learned NOTHING ever since they took down the good old Star Trek In Sound And Vision website back in the day (anyone remember that one?). They're still using the same tactics.
