News He-Man anime series from Kevin Smith coming to Netflix

No, it is a seperate universe to the Filmation cartoon. The prequel comic from Dark Horse (for which Kevin Smith provided the story and series writer Tim Sheridan wrote the script, so it's as official as it can get) provides the backstories of Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, and it matches what Lyn said on-screen.

I can actually recommend the comic. The art is not what you'd expect from a MotU comic book, but the story is pretty cool. It even gives the backstory of the tentacle creature sharing the dungeon with Duncan.

Watched the third episode and enjoyed the twists but I have to assume that Evil Lynn lied completely about how she first met Skeletor. That was literally nothing like his origin or hers from the cartoon. It is possible that the Faceless One altered her memories. Let's go with that.

What was her origin in the Filmation cartoon? They never even hinted at one from what I recall.

There was very little in the way of origin stories in the Filmation show, but she was given a backstory in the series bible:

Although her background is never mentioned in the Filmation series, the series bible claims she was once a scientist from Earth called Evelyn Powers, who was on board Marlena Glenn's space craft before it crash-landed on Eternia. Evelyn had been insanely jealous of Marlena for being chosen over her to pilot the shuttle. When the ship crashed as the result of an explosion from Skeletor's homeworld of Infinita, Evelyn wound up on Infinita, where the evil powers of that world turned her knowledge of science into sorcery to aid Skeletor. This origin is used in a storybook entitled New Champions of Eternia but was unpopular with the show's writers and therefore never alluded to in the cartoon (in which Marlena was alone aboard her space craft).

Well, sure, but we all know that unless it's on the screen, the series bible doesn't really mean much. There are so many contradictions from any series bible to production to illustrate why. Being Star Trek fans, this goes doubly without saying.

Meaning, nothing at all was contradicted from the original filmation series to Revelation as far as our discussion is concerned.

Some origin stories were dealt with in the mini-comics, and those that were released during the Filmation years are in MotU fandom indeed accepted as canon to the Filmation series. Skeletor's origin as Keldor, half-brother of King Randor, was part of those mini-comics, for example. Now, Revelations uses a different origin for Skeletor, one that is actually older, from the original wave of mini-comics.

Yeah the origins have old pedigrees but they were not popular. Sticking with the 2000 backgrounds would have been far better for me, especially linking Skeletor's power to a pact with the horde.

I have the last episode to watch. I wonder if Lynn's vision of Zoar, the ram, and the serpent was actually a prophecy of Teela's ascension since the sorceress is associated with the falcon, Lynn (in the 2000 cartoon at least) with the Ram Stone, and Teela with the serpent.

My guess is they'll bring her back to voice someone else, like they did with Oppenheimer.

Ted Biaselli, the executive producer of MOTU Revelation is a fun, eloquent guy.

Not a lot of ways to interpret this tweet other than "Yeah, it's happening". I mean, he's gotta have Mattel's/Netflix's blessing for this, right?

Going by the title and the artwork, one assumes this will focus squarely on the Eternian monarchy? Not a bad tack.

Mark has been keeping NDAs since long before they were even commonplace, and the last few years should have proven he hasn't forgotten how. If he's talking about something like this, it's because they gave him the green light.

It seems to have become an increasingly common marketing strategy over the last few years; let hints and clue "leak" ahead of the official announcement to increase chatter and drive engagement. That's not to say that every leak or rumour that panned out is a deliberate ploy in disguise of course.
