Indeed and that's the part that is more important to me. The uniforms look, well, uniform. The sit on the actors in similar manners and actually feel realistic, while being flattering in their look. That's not an easy thing to do.

Your views on feminism are as outdated and sexist as your views on how women should dress and present themselves. Third wave feminism has been around since the early 90s, it's only new if you think women wearing pants is going too far.

Yeah I'm obviously not a fan of them ending up with a design that is that close to the TOS "Wiggles" sweaters and minidresses, but I have to admit they at least look good onthe actors and, and thankfully they made some sensible upgrades.

You do realize that what counts as masculine or feminine is entirely subjective, yes? These boxes only exist insofar as they have been culturally constructed, and plenty of cultures recognize more or different boxes than these. They are, and have always been, unstable categories.

The claim you're making tells us about only one person's point of view and cannot be said to reflect some bigger societal view or practice, and certainly not some sort of universal declaration about what women want.

Also, to say that anyone is trying to "masculinize" women is to engage in what Corey Olsen calls crit-fic, or critic fiction, the generally frowned on practice of claiming knowledge of authorial intent without evidence. Unless you have evidence to share, that critique seems hard to support.

I told you what I think of your posts here, introducing clumsy, narrow-minded "commentary on contemporary entertainment" into the discussion of the actors on the show. It's insulting to them and there's no reason to let them pass.

I'll keep doing it while you keep it up. I'm not interested in how much you don't like having your posts criticized.

Address your "arguments?" You make no substantial arguments other than to regurgitate talking points that aren't worth a spit.

    We both clear?

It's always a red flag when someone has to repeatedly telegraph what group they are allegedly a part of in order to justify their insults toward a member of that group. You did it before by announcing that you're a woman as if that gave you a pass to insult women, and now you're repeatedly saying you're a person of color as if that gives you a pass to insult other people of color.

Narrowminded, sexist, racist, backwards views don't become less so just because they're coming from someone of the same gender or skin color, and it's not at all unusual on the anonymous internet for people looking to stir up trouble to claim to be something their not as if that gives them carte blanche to be sexists or bigots. Not saying that's necessarily what you are doing, because I can't know for sure one way or the other, but let's just say the things you want to discuss and the way you present yourself gets my internet spidey-sense tingling.

Lupita Nyong'o is one of the most beautiful women in the world regardless of what style hairdo she wears, including the natural style short cut, which is not at all as unheard of as you describe, nor does it make her the least bit masculine looking, not that that is somehow wrong if she had masculine features or that someone's worthiness as a person should be boiled down to his or her physical appearance.

Likewise, Celia Rose Gooding doesn't look the least bit masculine with her short natural hairstyle, nor does she sound masculine when she talks or sings. But if she did, so what? Why does everything have to conform to your singular view of how things should be? Why does it evolve from you not personally liking it or finding her attractive to it being part of a "problem" or "agenda" or a concerted effort to ruin her appearance somehow, which makes no goddamn sense?

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

ETA: You also mentioned Kelly Marie Tran's character of Rose Tico and her "potato sack" appearance, and it was precisely because of people like you making comments like that that she was driven off the internet and received threats. I hope you aren't attempting to do the same kind of thing to Celia Rose Gooding, or alternatively, that you are so naive that you think what you're saying can't have a damaging effect.

In the trailers that are discussed in this thread ‪‪I don’t see how anyone can look at Celia’s Uhura in this shot and classify her as “not feminine.”

I’ve spent more time than I care to arguing something that is of no significance to me, the perceived femininity or masculinity of characters, because those things aren’t static and unchanging, or objective, and don’t impact a character’s depth or importance, or my interest in them as characters.

Celia Rose Gooding is absolutely charming and is filled with an energetic and positive enthusiasm and immense respect for Uhura and her legacy in interviews, and in person. ‪‪I look forward to judging her performance of Uhura on its own merits and not defining her character by my concept of a single, ill defined quality.

valden, your comments would have fit in in the 1960s when Trek first aired.

It's a pity that looks/sexuality must ALWAYS be there for female characters. Heaven forbid she doesn't make the incels horny.

Anyhow, official hat on. Not only am I a mod here but I run the board, Me, an old, unsexy female. ;) So I suggest that you drop this kind of posting or you might catch me on a bad day* and I might just punt you.

See, I still remember the bullshit from the 1960s. As an adult in 2022, I don't have to tolerate it anymore.

ehh, I dont think they sit on the actors well. some of the uniform look way too padded, it makes some of the actors look very bulky, as the material looks a lot heavier, which does not look all that helpful to a uhura for example, since she looks already too masculine.

the scene on the enterprise where she replies to Pike that she is happy to be here and when spock talks to her on the bridge, her uniform looks like a thick sweater. I hate to say this, but it is like it is giving her extra unnecessary pounds and the actress already has a bust , so we dont need to give those type of women even more bulky dress because it will make their figure look very out of shape and it makes them look a lot heavier than they really are.

in fashion, they say that less is more. now before I would be accused of more racism or sexism, Tyra Banks , who used to be a high paid super model said the same thing because she was one of those few models that had a very big bust and a big beautiful ass (i may had) , so no I am not championing that all women have to be skinny. In fact I found Zoe Saldana's Uhura, way too skinny compared to Nichelle, however Zoe still had a nice petite and feminine frame.

But back to Tyra, Tyra always chose the right dress to help make her figure look great and fit in well with her curves, and bulky padded dresses was a no no to her. she even says this when she trained younger models.

So I guess tyra will be a racist/sexist as well? by knowing what fits the female body type well in a way that looks lovely the most, unless of course as SNW folks, they are going out of their way to make sure uhura does not look ''too'' lovely.

Actually it is not a red flag, sometimes I love how people say they are for diversity, but never listen to the actual diverse people. Malcom X said it best, that part of the problem with the white saviour narrative is that, it is the white man that must still lead, not the black person and I feel this is the case here. please listen to us minorities. we are the ones with the experience of actual racism, the biggest of all has always been, the blonde woman is the definition of beauty and women of color must look like masculine men, so they dont threaten the blonde have more fun woman.

This is the bs trope they have used here.

it is us minorities that are having a issue with what is been done to our POC women, this nonsense stereotype has been there for a long time, that black women should look manly, asexual and unattractive as much as possible even when the actresses are not. we made some progress in the 80s and 90s and 10s, but it looks like the stereotype is back, in the worst ways, where women of color are made to look more like men and are hardly portrayed as 100% feminine.

Also I am a fan of Kerrie marie and hated she was ran off the internet but the movies did her dirty, rose /kerrie is a beautiful girl and they stripped it down in the movie, that was not fair.

Additionally you also dont seem to get it . Lupita is stunning but the difference is that Lupita looks good in low cut hair, black women are a variety of beautiful and we have hair style that showcase that best, what looks good on some, may not look go on others. Lupita and Jada Pinket look good with low cut hair because they have the right facial structure but celia does not, the same way only black women in the 90s looked great in braids like Brandy Norwood when the braid style was huge in the 90s.

In destiny child, Beyonce would have looked awful with low cut hair, unlike Kelly Rowland who looked amazing in it, Black Women know what fits them, Unlike Lupita, SNW has given Ceiia a hair cut that does not fit her face or bone structure because they really want to make her look masculine in every way necessary.

That picture of Laan and Uhura, if not that Celia has a big bust, (breast) I would not be able to tell if that was a woman until I have looked very close but from afar, I can't tell what her gender is. However I can tell Laan is a girl. the fact that i cannot tell with uhura, who is already such an iconic female character, a character screenrant.com even called the best looking female in trek history.

Also look at all the comments here, subconsciously all you are agreeing with me and you dont know it. want to know why?

Many of you have already commented that Chapel looks hot on the Chapel thread, I have yet to see anyone here say Uhura looks Hot as Chapel. so... why is that?

Watch this CBS Tvideo, half of the comment is about womanly and ''hot'' Uhura looks

Not seeing that here and we all know what is going on here, there is an agenda in the media and in Hollywood to erase black physical feminity and this Uhura is their latest victim.

You're posting in a way to appear oblivious to the way other posters respond to you, unless it's to find offense with our chosen words.

( Note that this will be my only use of the term "offense" in my posts on the subject, so I don't want to hear any nonsense about how people are "too quick to find offense" in so-called "controversial" opinions.)

You're not saying anything that falls into the categories of smart, entertaining, informative or observant or, honestly, anything of conversational value. Just fucking knock it off now and we'll talk about the show and Uhura.

Pretty odd, she will say that since the kelvin cast are still looked at as the young cast and we have a potential star trek 4 film on the way.

However I am glad she has seen the modern movies and I hope will be a good uhura as zoe was, despite them going out of their wat to make sure she physically looks nothing like Zoe or Nichelle.

Although Spock and even Pike in SNW look like their TOS and even AOS counterpart that is Zachary Quinto/Ethan Peck.

WTF? She looks different physically because she’s a different person. Nobody went out of their way to do that… Your posts are bizarre.

For that matter, Nichols and Saldana look nothing like each other.

Yes, it is. You know your opinion is problematic so throw in "I'm X, so I'm allowed to say this!", you wouldn't do that if you thought what you said was harmless. You're just trying to use it as a "Get out of jail free" card.

Except she doesn't look like a masculine man, what are you talking about?

I think she's the most gorgeous woman on the show.
