Watching Kike Hernandez talking to the TV booth while also playing in the outfield and he even had to field the ball. Seems like that would be kind of distracting for the player.

Yeah, that seems like an injury waiting to happen.

Edit: Holy , Rob Manfred sent a peace offering to the players. In the form of having a pair of Bose headphones delivered to everyone's lockers on Opening Day. Words cannot describe how inept Manfred is at reading the room.

20-year-old phenom Roki Sasaki threw a 19-strikeout perfect game for the Chiba Lotte Marines against the Orix Buffaloes. At one point, he struck out 13 in a row.
I heard about that earlier today. I wish I had been at that game. Hell, I miss going to Japanese games period. The crowd must've gone crazy for that 13 batter streak!

They've been doing that during All Star and postseason games for a few years now but I think this is the first time I've heard that happening during a regular season game.

Fuck's sake, where have all the copy editors gone?

It's "principal," not "principle," you jackwagons.

What can you do, they're unprincipaled :guffaw:

For today, Seiya Suzuki 2 (on 2 homers), Pirates 1, Cubs win. Hopefully the rest of the team starts doing a little more hitting.

Clayton Kershaw pulled after 7 despite a perfect game. Reliever gives up hit in the 8th.

Rookie Steven Kwan finally struck out. He had gone 116 pitches without a swing and a miss and the second pitch of this at-bat in the first inning was the first time in 40 swings where he didn't put the ball into play or foul it off.

Short spring training, plus only his second start, plus he's had injury issues. Pulling Koleslaw was probably the best decision.

I didn't tune into last night's Pirates/Nats game until the fifth or sixth inning, so I missed this:

So Nats shortstop Alcides Escobar was on first and didn't have too much of a lead, but Pirates pitcher J.T. Brubaker decided to keep him honest anyway. Quick throw to first, Escobar gets back on the bag, but first baseman Yoshitomo Tsutsugo misses the catch, and the ball hits Escobar right in the O'Malleys.

Fortunately Escobar was OK after a minute and finished out the rest of the game.

On a cool Southern California evening, Cincinnati Reds rookie Hunter Greene brought some record-setting heat.
After five overpowering innings, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally caught up.
Trea Turner launched a two-run homer to snap a scoreless tie in the sixth and the Dodgers beat the skidding Reds 5-2 on Saturday night for their fifth consecutive victory.
In his highly anticipated homecoming, Greene threw an astounding 39 pitches 100 mph or faster -- most in a single game since pitch tracking began in 2008. The previous mark was 33 by New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom last June.

Counting the days until Greene's arm falls off, considering DeGrom's 2021 season ended last July 7th.

How do you improve on perfection? Roki Sasaki is doing his best to find out.
In his first start since throwing the first perfect game in Nippon Professional Baseball since 1994, Sasaki, 20, almost did it again for the Chiba Lotte Marines, as he was pulled after eight perfect innings in a 1-0 loss to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters on Sunday.
The right-hander amassed 14 strikeouts before he was pulled from a scoreless game after throwing 102 pitches. Of note: He was taken out after he struck out the side in the eighth inning with his pitches reportedly still reaching 101 mph.
