Damn is it fun to watch Ohtani when he's on.

Last night: 2 for 4, BB, 2 RBI. 6 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 12 K's.

The Hall of Fame has restructured the rules for what used to be the Veterans Committee yet again.

Highlighting these changes is a consolidation of eras into two timeframes – the Contemporary Baseball Era, consisting of the period from 1980 to present day, and the Classic Baseball Era, consisting of the period prior to 1980 and including Negro Leagues and pre-Negro Leagues stars. The Contemporary Baseball Era will split into two separate ballots – one ballot to consider only players who made their greatest impact on the game since 1980, and another composite ballot consisting of managers, executives and umpires whose greatest contributions to the game have come since 1980.

Each of these three Era Committees – the Contemporary Baseball Era player ballot, the Contemporary Baseball Era non-player ballot, and the Classic Baseball Era composite ballot – will rotate on an annual basis, with each ballot consisting of eight candidates.

Effective beginning in January 2023, eligible players must have been retired for 16 or more seasons, equal to a one-year waiting period following their final potential year of eligibility on the BBWAA ballot.

Eras considered for yearly election are as follows: December 2022 (for Class of 2023) – Contemporary Baseball/Players; December 2023 (for Class of 2024) – Contemporary Baseball/Managers-Umpires-Executives; December 2024 (for Class of 2025) – Classic Baseball. This cycle will repeat every three years, with Contemporary Baseball/Players eligible for consideration again in December 2025 for the Class of 2026.

What fucking purpose does that serve, you ask? Well, after changing the max time on the ballot from 15 years to 10 right when Bonds and Clemens became eligible, the new rules make it so they can't get in through the Era Committee until 2026, when they'll face more competition and a once-every-three-years ballot.

Either have the balls to make them ineligible, or let them the fuck in.

That would require the BBWAA to admit it's full of hypocrites.

Not fuckin' likely in this or any other world, even after a complete "confessed" conversion and baptism in Lake Otsego it would not convince me that most are not shills to a "higher power".

Ya' know what else sucks? It appears that I cain't watch my Red-legs git' thar' asses kicked again unless I subscribe to Apple +

Cubs 21 Pierats 0. The Cubs are really in need of "saving some runs for tomorrow" after losing the first 2 to fucking Pittsburgh.

Kyle Hendricks finally had a good game of 7 IP 2 H 2 K 0 BB ball.

Why do TV stations schedule baseball games in a 3 hour window when they are almost never over in 3 hours?

Same thing with college football. One time viewers missed the start of a college football game because NASCAR Trucks went long.

White Sox game dealing with a drone delay. Have you ever seen that before?

There have been a few drone delays the last couple years. At least once at Wrigley. People are idiots, people with expensive toys doubly so.

This is the only league that forces players to pick a single team to enter the HOF with and kicks people off the ballot after a set period of time or if they don't meet a percentage of votes. It's already super broken.

Our Storm Chasers radio guy (Jake Eisenberg) is now doing Mets games! :techman:

hope this is temporary. We want him back here!

I mostly don't go to live events anymore, just don't have the energy to deal with the jackasses that seem to be crawling out of the woodwork like cockroaches now.

Last time I was at an actual MLB game was when I saw Brewers / Rockies at Miller Park back in, like, 2014. I was (supposedly) happily married then.

Kyle Schwarber is normally pretty calm, yet Angel Hernandez' botch calls can get even Kyle to go off.

The A's second home game had an attendance of 3,748, the lowest crowd there since 1980, and the smallest non-pandemic attendance in baseball since a Marlins game in 2019 (5,297).

Then the next game had an attendance of 2,703.
