Why are these episodes so short? The latest Halo was over 50 minutes. This is under 40.

Pros:
- Agnes and Queenie continue to be an absolute, marrow-chilling delight. Even if we don't get Pill back next season, she is making one hell of an impression on this one.
- Elnor in a tux. Ooo la-la! :D Can I get some BTS photos of that?
- Looks like Rios may actually choose to stay in the 21st century?! I am intrigued.
- JL and Renee's scene was really quite charming, though, like others, I begin to suspect she may actually be a red herring...
- I hate the Soong bros at this point, but damn, Spiner played a creepy bastard all too well.

Cons:
- Just over half an hour? Really? The finale episodes better be sixty minutes each, y'all.
- I am very much over the mystery of Picard's mother at this point.
- Also the mystery of Raffi's Elnor hallucinations. We've got four episodes left, and lord knows how many more of them are going to be bite-sized. Let's get some momentum going.
- I like how Ryan and Hurd bounce off of each other, but can we get a few more scenes where they seem to at least like each other? The one with Raffi being sweet on Seven from afar just reminded me of how little we've seen of that.

Enjoyed it overall, but it really did feel like it cut off before anything actually happened. Still too much set-up, not enough meat.

Really glad we got a scene with Raffi and Rios interacting. They’re one of my favourite dynamics from the first season and I do so enjoy seeing them bicker. Shame it was tinged with this undercurrent of Matalas seeming to want to write Rios out of the show.

Noticed de Lancie got a Special Guest Star credit in the opening but he wasn’t actually in this one? Unless I missed something.

Good episode overall. Probably the best of the 2024 bunch. Picard getting a jumpscare when Adam Soong just popped up at the party gave me a little chuckle.

This whole story would be better if this was based around Shaun Christopher. This whole Renee character doesn’t work. Any hint of depression and she would be off the mission. I certainly wouldn’t want to go on a mission with her.

Plus is would be a better tie in with Assignment Earth.

For the most part, I'm still captivated by this season. I do have a few critiques though:

The show's pacing is, unfortunately, beginning to lag. The set-up remains intriguing, I just wish they kept the ball rolling at a faster tempo. The Jurati/Borg Queen subplot is stealing the show, not merely because of the actors' charisma, but because it's the only dimension of the show that seems to be progressing at a reasonable rate. I want to be invested in what's going on with Q and Picard, but Q is scarcely present and Picard's demons are being drip fed. Six episodes in and Soong, one of the primary antagonists this season, is just now being established.

Speaking of antagonists, the triumvirate of Q, Soong, and the Borg Queen is a touch imbalanced. Q is ostensibly the inciting incident of the arc, but the Borg Queen is playing the role of the Heavy this season. She has the most screen time despite being a wild card without any direct involvement in the primary conflict of the story. Having your big bad take a back seat is fairly common in media, but Q's taking a back seat to a villain he's not even associated with. It's peculiar. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why the Queen is here, and it's frustrating because--bias aside--it's one of the most compelling parts of the season.

I feel bad nitpicking really, I'm still enjoying my time here.

I hope is that, after this putrid dreck of a show ends its second season, that SNW is a refreshing palate cleanser.

I never complain about the length of episodes with this style of serialized television. The story is 10 episodes long. Or chapters. The specific lengths each week are based on what the focus of each installment requires.

Which is much preferable to network tv shows. Where the lengths are designed to fit a time slot and leave space for commercial breaks. It’s not just leaving time for breaks, but creating forced cliffhangers and pauses to keep audiences watching through the commercials. I think audiences have been trained to except this artificial format for many decades, it’s off putting to see television designed to suit story needs. Not time slots.
