"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

All kiding aside, it has been a long road getting here. Thank you John for keep moving forward.

The film took a little longer than expected to complete (over 36 years!!)... but I am very pleased to report that "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" is finally finished! We will be posting the movie online at YouTube and Vimeo on April 5, 2022 (First Contact Day!)

An updated trailer can be seen here:

Not to nitpick but why do the phasers get sounds effects but the Klingon torpedoes don't?

Can't wait to the the film!

Fascinating. Only read a few pages of this thread but that Starlog article mentions Sulu has a son and that's a neat idea!
Also I just watched Die Hard properly for the first time the other night and I really liked Mr. Takagi, so it'll be fun to see that dude again!

I will spoil this part.... Sulu has no son in the finished film. That idea was toyed with in the 80s, but the film goes another way. No secret love child for Sulu :)

Oh that's okay. I think I've just been used to him having a daughter for so long that it even never occurred to me til now that of course he could have had a son :)

Keeps continuity with New Voyages (sigh of relief) ;)

I plan to write a blog about how Nichols, Takei and Koenig have been best served in fan productions (New Voyages, Of Gods and Men, Renegades, Yorktown, the Star Trek: Excelsior 50th Anniversary audio drama), developing and focusing on the characters far more than Paramount ever did.

I love the irony that it's the 'real' stars, yet unofficial and completely non-canon!

And only a few U.S. hours left to make it by the release date. Will they get there...I've finished rewatching TMP, so I'm primed for some more new old Trek. :)

So excited. I recorded my lines AGES ago, and my wife got recruited for some additional dialogue in 2020. It's truly been a long road, and I'm really looking forward to at last enjoying this labour of love. :)

Fantastic film! Some heavy topics, some still resonate today.

The blending of the Eighties and Modern footage is seamless. Indeed part of the novelty is the retroness of it, a previously lost but significant chapter in Trek fan film history. Presumably this is post-Phase II Xon?

And it goes without saying I loved seeing Hikaru Sulu in a brand new environment surrounded by new characters! Congratulations, you must be delighted to have it out at last

Congrats and much love to John, Stan and the whole team on completing this much-anticipated piece of film history! My wife and I were both so happy that it's finally out for everyone, and for our comparatively tiny roles re-voicing some characters whose original dialogue had been lost to time.

For me, this is a sideways realization of a dream to be in a production with my George Takei, who was my inspiration to get into acting. As roundabout as it is, I'm overjoyed that this has happened. :)
