Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

So I'm in London at the moment and this morning I stumbled across the 'Kraven The Hunter' shooting location and had to take a big detour to get where I was going. Thanks Sony!!

Before I moved off I did have a look around to see if I could spot and Executive-types to ask them what the hell is going on with their movies but they were just setting up so it was only crew around. Probably for the best. :)
 
So having made the mistake of booking tickets when they went on sale we went to Morbius today but didn't stick around for the post-credits scenes. (There are limits!) And you know what, it wasn't the worst thing ever.
Don't take that as an endorsement though and you certainly shouldn't pay to see it but honestly I've seen lots of worse movies in my life.

As many people have noted this feels like a film that's been sitting on a shelf for closer to twenty years than two but it's been long enough to allow a bit of nostalgia to creep in. It's also probably the smallest scale Marvel movie ever with three main characters, three supporting characters and no big-scale larger stakes (no pun intended), since the method of killing vampires would be pretty easy for biologists to work out.

If nothing else it should be good for Matt Smith since he very much steals the film from Leto who's taking it all way too seriously.
 
Morbius looks like it could be pretty good, but it's gonna just be a streamer for me. It just doesn't look like it's worth spending the money to go see it in the theater.

Morbius is an awful movie. The worst marvel movie ever IMO. It's definitely the worst movie I have seen in 2022 and I doubt that will change come years end.
Sony screwed it up, they are going to screw up the goodwill we all have for Andrew Garfield again when they make a 3rd AMS movie.

Stupid in thought and execution. They steal a good character from the MCU and stick him in this? They stink so much of desperation to get their crappy little sinister 6 movie made.

I hate the way they have whispy smoke coming from Morbius anytime he does something. It blurs the fight scenes and action that are already poorly done.

I hate how they play the Batman Begins theme anytime Morbius is around bats.


Garbage movie. Avoid, avoid!

You could tell from the marketing about the desparation of trying to link some crappy sony film to the MCU that it wasn't going to stand on its own.

I can never remember, is Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman part of the Spider-Man rights, or would she be an MCU character?
 
I didn't mind Morbius. The ending was rather rushed though. Matt Smith was fun to watch.
The post credit scene was weird though. I don't really know what that means.
 
In that case, I'm kind of surprised that Sony didn't start off with a movie for her, she seems like and obvious choice, her name is close enough to Spider-Man's to get non comic fan's attention, and her comics are separate enough from Spider-Man's that a movie wouldn't feel weird without him.

That's too smart for Sony. Their whole thought process for the past 10 years has been setting up the Sinister Six.

So, honest opinion: Did this film feel like it got hacked to bits in the editing room, or was there just not enough of a story there to begin with?

Yeah, and even if they weren't focused on the Sinister Six, with their weird priorities they'd probably try to make a solo Living Brain or Hypno Hustler film before doing anything obvious like Spider-Woman.

I don't understand this fascination they have with the Sinister Six, did they see "Guardians of the Galaxy" and say "WE WANT ONE!"?
