Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

It still feels pretty weird to me that Ultimate Spider-Man declined so much, from being pretty often praised as the best version of character since the Stan Lee run (sure that amount of hype-praise sure couldn't last) to most people being indifferent to him including that he was ended/killed off.

The initial liking/praise I think was combination of liking that you didn't have 30 years of continuity/development for both readers and writers to have to keep in mind and that Spider-Man was again a high school teenager which some people felt is best version but over time after some 40, 60, 80 issues he developed quite a bit of continuity of his own and also people came to think that him being (always) stuck in high school was not such great setting/version. Otherwise there was just thinking that Ultimate Peter was so much like classic Peter that, especially with him not moving beyond high school, not much was lost with killing him off and with other characters, with Ultimate Marvel in general, fan reaction was often either Too Much Like the Original or Too Unlike, Too Just In Name Only the Original so either was pretty unnecessary.

Beh, they were never going to do that movie in the first place. Tobey and Andrew are never getting new movies on their own.

I say Andrew was likely if he wanted to do it since Sony were still doing their own thing before with their Spiderverse.

I seem to recall him indicate after No Way Home came out that he was interested in doing more Spider-Man in whatever form, which is what fueled my desire for him to do some Marvel One-Shots (yes, I know they haven't been done in years).

Andrew’s Spider-Man seemed to have more untold story left to tell than Tobey’s, IMHO. Plus Tobey seems semi-retired from acting. Though Andrew seems so busy, it’s not sure how he’d have fitted in a new TAS-M movie

Too bad. I would love to see a Spiderman movie where he is older, maybe have children, feeling that he is past his prime for example.

While I would absolutely love to see him do a third movie I think NWH gave him a fantastic redeeming moment that covers the closure we needed with the character. Hope we get to see a bit more of him though. Fingers crossed for Secret Wars. Wanna see him, Tobey and Tom do that Spiderman 3 dance together.

Unpopular opinion.....
But Tobey's Spidey never really did it for me. Andrew's and Tom's were better IMO.

I never liked those movies from the start, and while the tone and the suit cgi had something to do with it, Tobey was by far the biggest reason why.

Andrew was a lot better, though still undermined by other problems in his films unfortunately. Tom is just fantastic.

Music to my ears. I was never a fan of the Raimi films and didn't watch them again until No Way Home, just as Allyn did. If anything, I liked them even less on the rewatch while loving Garfield's first movie more (but it's not without its flaws).

Same. Upon rewatching the Raimi movies in the run up to No Way Home, I was struck by how much of an incel Tobey's Peter was and how toxic the Peter/MJ relationship was.

Raimi in general seems to suck with writing women. He was an Exec on Xena but wasn't a writer directly IIRC.

I hadn't heard about Robinson and Aquino yet, that's awesome! I'm a big fan of both of them.
