I had a similar question but then I thought about people like the Rikers who wouldn't mind living out on their own and generating their own power. Might just be one option for private citizens to have on their land.My only question, why still with the wind turbines?
Yeah, I agree. I was more just thinking that wind turbines would be my least-preferred renewable (due to sound, bird impacts, initial construction and repair difficulties). But maybe in the actual show we will see solar or other types as well. Though I don't expect any explanation to be voiced as to why Pike chose wind or not others, it is an interesting thought experiment.I had a similar question but then I thought about people like the Rikers who wouldn't mind living out on their own and generating their own power. Or could be relics from the past.Yeah, I agree. Ah, but fully operational relics from the past? Unlikely. Unless maintained, even with advanced 22nd century tech (if they were relics), one would expect them to break down over time. These are active and thus likely in current use.Or could be relics from the past.
I would imagine maintaining them wouldn't be terribly hard.Ah, but fully operational relics from the past? Unlikely. Unless maintained, even with advanced 22nd century tech (if they were relics), one would expect them to break down over time. These are active and thus likely in current use.
Kirk in the Kelvin Universe had the Corvette that was running and there were books all over the place throughout Trek. Pike probably has that as a complete way to get away from commanding a ship while on Earth. My thinking is that the Enterprise got home after the shakedown from the repairs at the end of Discovery Season 2 and everyone is on shore leave until Starfleet decides to make the unprecedented step of sending a crew out for a second 5-Year Mission.I assume this cabin area is kept this way to escape from society. And I would assume that it in an area that Solar isn't a viable year round source of power (I Know plenty from my 25 years in Alaska were Solar wouldn't be the very effective, but wind would be nearly year round effective. As for environmental issues I would assume that in a society so vastly more advanced then ourselves they would have passive and non harmful ways to lesson the noise, and make a safe harmless way to shield birds or other migrating creatures away from the blades.
I know we've kept a cabin that was working of 1700 technology and not 20th let alone 21st century technology simply as a refuge to escape from our everyday life. I don't see why people int eh 23rd century couldn't do the same....
