News Killjoys and Ant-Man and the Wasp's Hannah John-Kamen to Play Red Sonja in New Movie

Anybody who doubts that she'll be an awesome Red Sonja just needs to watch Killjoys.

Surely Hannah John-Kamen has proved in Killjoys and Ant-Man/Wasp that she's an amazing, kickass action lead, as well as a brilliant actress and one of the most mind-numbingly gorgeous women who's ever lived. We should be jumping with joy that she got the lead role she deserves. Instead of questioning her casting, we should pray the rest of the movie is good enough to be worthy of her.

I take it you like her.
;)
Me too. I admit my first reaction was that she's too slight, but that photo back there changed my mind on that!

Just out of curiosity @Gov Kodos, have you watched Killjoys?
No, and it doesn't matter. I've been skeptical of this thing ever since it was announced Millennium was producing it. Nothing they've done from originally hiring Brian Singer to direct to this casting has made me feel any different.

Some youtube clips since, still not impressed.

If you're interested in seeing in seeing what she's capable it's worth checking out, and even if you're not, it's just an overall great show that I recommend checking.
One thing that really endeared the show to me is that they eventually introduced a group called Hackmods, several of whom were played by actors with disabilities, and as someone who really wants to see more representation for people with disabilities, this won them a lot of points in my book.

Yeah, that was cool.

The movie got a new director. She did the Solomon Kane film and other action films so that's a plus.

It is only rumor so far but Hannah may have left the film. This may well just be speculation because of the new director, though.

Same people who screwed up the Conan film? Ugh...
Hopes were low to begin with.. Sad as I like the Conan and red Sonja movies..

Maybe they'll cast a real red head this time.. HA HA HA... Yeah right..

If Millennium knows anything it's pushing films out cheap and fast. They've dawdled on this project far longer than they usually do so I guess the producers and Soloway have been at loggerheads on how this movie should look. I am increasingly sure if this this film comes to pass the Brigitte Nielsen film will be a cinematic masterpiece in comparison.

Yeah, I swear at times it seems with these kind of movies, the longer they're in development hell, the worse they end up being when they finally come out.

Yeah but think of The Maltese Falcon, the Bogart film was the third time, I believe. Right now, Hannah leaving is speculative as far as I believe. One rumor heavy website posted the news, everything else is just copy and paste. So far as she is concerned, Hannah could have decided with the change of director with so little having happened so far that she was better off heading to greener pastures. All guess work until Millennium or someone else actually connected to the film says something.

That's three different finished films, though, not one film being stuck in development for ages.

Although I can think of one film stuck in development forever that turned out well in the end: Raimi's Spider-Man. That was in development for the better part of two decades, starting with the James Cameron version that never materialized.

Almost no red headed character is ever played by a redhead. I don't know why, but it basically never happens. If I hadn't seen red headed people in person before, I'd start to believe that they don't exist just based on TV/Movie productions unwillingness to hire them. They either just dye peoples hair (like both versions of live action Jean Grey) or just ignore the hair color of the original character (Batwoman). Its happened enough times now that I've gotten a bit suspicious about it, I know redheads aren't the most common but there have to be some people with red hair going out for acting roles.

As for everything else, Ghost fucking sucked so I'd be happy to never see that actress again. Honestly, this movie has felt like it was going to be a trainwreck since it was announced, and I doubt it will be based on the only version of Red Sonja I like (Gail Simone's version), so I don't suppose it matters who is making the movie or playing the character.

Well, all I can suggest is to check out her SyFy series, Killjoys, and you may change your mind about her.

I watched the first 3 episodes of Killjoys when it first came out, and I absolutely hated them (not because of that actress specifically to be fair, but I just overall couldn't stand that show). I thought that Dark matter, which debuted on Syfy around the same time, was 1000x better (at least in season one, then season 2 was terrible and it was cancelled, while killjoys got 5 seasons :sigh:).

Fair enough. I did enjoy Dark Matter more as well. Killjoys was quirky as hell, while DM was more straight-forward space opera.
