NFL 2021 season - Belichick Strikes Back

No coherent or logical response. Definitely “no surprise.” And yep, I get triggered by racism and bigotry. ;)

My last comment.

You don't get to squeeze in one last snipe ten hours after I told y'all to cool it down. Warning for trolling.

I will never understand the idea that politicians, players, entertainers etc have to be these beacons of virtue. As long as he isn't betting on the game he has an effect on, who cares? Let the man live his life the way he wants to.

Pete Rose! Pete Rose!!!

I've met him numerous times and he is an A #1 ass-hole which is not a non-qualifier for the HOF.

I am still of a split-mind concerning Shoeless Joe and a few of the other Black Sox. IMHO some of the lambs got caught up w/ the wolves.

The concern is about using insider knowledge to sway the odds in the player’s favor, as I understand it.

Yep. That’s where the conflict of interest came into play. Irrespective of the legality of online gambling now, there are strict league policies in place that forbid exactly this kind of extracurricular activity.

Right. There's a reason, for example, that Rule 21 is on the wall of every single Major League Baseball clubhouse, as it's the one inviolable commandment: "Don't bet on baseball, or you will be permanently banned for life." Every other sports league has similar prohibitions in its rulebook. The moment you allow betting on games and / or don't come down on it, you immediately tell your fans they have no reason to watch because the games are meaningless. "Oh, look, the Dolphins played in prevent defense the entire game ... guess one of the coaches must have had money riding on how many yards the defense could give up in a single half."

That being said, however, while Ridley is an idiot, it's just perverse for the NFL to simultaneously be in bed with the online sportsbooks so deeply. It's very funny how the NFL is messaging this, given how pervasive in just a few short years gambling has gone from the sly comment by the commenting crew going like, "Well, a certain crowd of people will not like that last second touchdown," to full-on money lines and parlays being talked about during the pregame being sponsored by BetMGM or Caesars, and then having Terry Bradshaw talking about using the Fox betting app to "Win Terry's Money!" Enjoy this broadcast of the National Football League, brought to you by Draft Kings. Welcome to the opening game at FanDuel Field!

Ridley's still a moron, though.

Edit: Seen on Twitter: "Calvin Ridley bet $1,500 and lost $10 million. Those are the worst odds in gambling history."

Couldn't have said it better. Sadly, there will always be those who try to game the system. Even more sadly, the NFL seems to have further tacitly enabled and encouraged such gaming.

Packers and Aaron Rodgers agree to a 4-year, $200 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

$153 million of that is guaranteed.

For a 38-year-old quarterback.

Good Lord.

The last two Super Bowls were won by QBs in their very first year with a new team. Somehow I don't think Rodgers wanted that pressure.
