Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

The post is deleted now (wish I'd screenshotted it, I imagine the comments would have gone John Eaves 25% in no time), but Doug Drexler commented on Facebook today that he considers Picard a direct continuation of TNG and Discovery a "variant timeline"

Well, he's in the right fandom for this kind of, *clears throat* discussion.

I saw that comment of his. I might not agree with much of the DSC Era aesthetic but it is the same timeline and continuity as TOS.

And its quick deletion/removal feels somewhat telling. For whatever reason, and a few come to mind as possibilities, he decided it wasn’t worth it to keep it up.

while I mostly agree with his opinion (I would include Picard in the alt universe because of the Discoprise and Disco shuttle appearances in S1), it’s not an argument I think is worth having anymore. Both sides are pretty dug in and few if any minds are gonna change.

he was right to delete it. Facebook is a cesspool to begin with and I’m sure the reaction to the post only made things worse.

Working in the art department and making him a Trek somebody, I can see the more... special... internet people using it as a rallying cry of some secret canon conspiracy.

Again.

I have it but not sure how to post photos from phone on here as no URL…

It's not as offensive an opinion as prejudice, but one that would get many fans fired up. I don't watch Discovery, but.... I've seen the arguments on twitter! lol like you I don't disagree

Also of course he's employed by the people who make Discovery, which is a big risk!

Well he still says he hasn't watched Discovery and Disliked Picard Season 1 so much he never finished it. His stances there haven't changed.

He hasn't deleted any of those. But saying it's a different universe is probably too far, because CBS says it isn't.
