Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Canon is a dirty word.

Seriously though, canon is a tool, a tapestry that one can add to. And the characters who give dates and details are fallible. They can make mistakes. Being as beholden to it as some are is not necessarily a good thing.

In other words, just repeat to yourself, “It’s just a show. I should really just relax.”

while I mostly agree with his opinion (I would include Picard in the alt universe because of the Discoprise and Disco shuttle appearances in S1...

So how do you cope with an actor change, where the new look and performance is also deliberately different: ie. Kirstie Alley's Saavik transforming into Robin Curtis's Saavik?

If nothing else, Picard has done a stellar at making the Borg fucking terrifying again. Especially in the first episode of season 2! VOY turned them into a joke but Picard has made them the most scariest motherfuckers in the galaxy once again. It's great!

True. I'm putting this under spoiler for those who don't want to know any gossip about season 3....

The only cast known to be in Season Three are Patrick Stewart (duh), Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd. Santiago Cabrera has a recurring role on Flight Attendants and also has been travelling while season 3 was filming according to his IG, Allison Pill has been in NY since the autumn based on her social media because she is filming a new show called Hello Tomorrow there, and Isa Briones and Evan Evagora were on the Star Trek cruise which means at the least they are not in the finale. Also Orla Brady appears to be back in Ireland.

This has come up a few times, so I'm just going to clarify:
Cabrera's role on Flight Attendant is billed as recurring, yes, but all his scenes seem to have been filmed in a very short block back in the autumn, he posted a 'goodbye and thanks for having me' message months ago and doesn't seem to have been on set there longer than a couple of weeks. (Because Flight Attendant has scenes set in various countries around the world, they film the scenes for those different locations in blocks, rather than working on one episode at a time, so scenes spread across an entire season might be filmed in as little as two weeks). As for travelling, IG indicates that he went to the Grand Canyon for Thanksgiving weekend and visited his family in Chile during the Christmas break, but other than that has remained in LA the whole time. So his other activities are not conclusive as to whether he has any role in S3 or not. I'm not saying he is or isn't, just that the evidence against isn't as conclusive as many seem to think.

That said, yes, it does seem strange that so many of the cast have had other things going on during filming of season three. But not everyone was in every episode of season one, so who knows what is going on? I daresay we'll find out in time.
