I see, so it's mostly unhappy right-wingers vocalizing their displeasure. If they can't do it by protesting in Ottawa, flood the GG's inbox! That'll work! Wouldn't surprise me if this were an idea brought forth by Fox News.

If asked about voting in the last election, I wonder how many would say they did?

Admittedly though largely being from Alberta, they votes probably wouldn't have changed things.

Looking at the figures via wikipedia, there was 13.7% swing against the conservatives, 7.5 to the NDP and 1.3% to the liberals 5.7% to mad max's morons and 1.3 to the maverick party.

Can't seem to find figure the turn out in Alberta - across the nation it was just over 60%.

op-ed piece in the star looking at the origins of the convoy protest and saying it goes back the 2014 crash in oil prices and the impact on the provincial economy in Alberta even since.

The author comments that it's probably going to impact politics for sometime to come and it could well be the tories who are the main victim. The sort of rhetoric and behaviour largely won't fly with the rest of the country if the CPC starts to accommodate it I don't think they'll get a majority govt for quite some time.

and the emergencies act declaration has been revoked (as has the Ontario State of Emergency Declaration).

guess there a few people who hoped to use it as proof trudeau = dictator mantra are gonna be pissed.

That's the thing I love about Canada. I'd like to think the majority is level-headed enough to see right through it and won't take that kind of crap.

Regarding Batten, well, the protesters have been known to be aggressive towards those that disagree with them. The fact that she wasn't accosted by them shouldn't be an indicator of their manners, but more to the fact that they weren't feeling threatened by her. You can bet that if she had been on the other side of it, she'd be singing a different tune.

So Batters is still at it?
I am unsurprised.
The rank and file of the Canadian Conservatives is more and more in lockstep with Trumpist Republicans as time goes by, and ditto for the "People's Party" of Maxime Bernier (who still have no seats in the House of Commons). Whether the level-headed majority is allowed to refuse to take "that kind of crap" is still debatable, despite Trudeau and Ford's revocations of their governments' declarations of emergency.
Those three encampments in Arnprior, Embrun and Vankleek Hill aren't yet dispersed that I know of.

Well 2 out of the 3 truck protest leaders are going to be cooling their heals behind bars for a while.

lich had her bail denied earlier this week and now pat king has had had his denied.

Judge believed he was a very high risk of re-offending and view that was probably re-inforced with evidence of him purchasing a pistol mere days after being required to surrender his weapons to police.

Just can't believe some of their First Amendment rights were violated.

^ It sounds like a couple of the other convoys mentioned in that story aren't having the same problem.

Do you think the Americans would let them paralyze DC for three weeks before breaking out the riot gear?

I think that compared to Canada, the American police and national guard were ready for them, not to mention they have the resources to properly deal with it. And the news of arrests in Canada might have had something to do in thinning the ranks. Some have probably started to realize it's not worth the stress on their families.

I heard that the original plan was to just roll along the Beltway, but from the sounds of it, they plan on going to the Mall.

If Trump gets back in the White House - or worse than Trump takes his place there - we are going to see him try to order an invasion of Canada to install someone like Pat King,Tamara Lich, Christopher Garrah, Nicholas St. Louis, Benjamin Dichter, Steeve Charland, etc. as his preferred prime minister.

Take him at his word on this, and take this as the warning that it is. Please.

Take him at his word on this

Has he actually said this? Do you have a link? I've read all the stuff where he goes off on Trudeau's "tyranny", but I haven't yet heard an actual promise to bring about regime change. This seems far-fetched, even for him. But I guess I shouldn't put too much past him, especially since he's probably watching what the object of his idolatry is doing over in Europe.

I'm guessing Article 5 has never needed to be invoked before when the aggressor is another NATO member. (Although I guess if he made it back into the WH, who knows how long the US would stay in NATO?)

the rank hypocrisy of the Trudeau tyranny comments beggars belief.

the stupidity of the man and the mindless adoration of his gullible supporters is a dangerous combination.

not mention when it comes to projection he out does cineplex.

:ack: That'd take some serious balls, as we are our own country, with a defining history of our own and one which we fought for on 3 separate occasions I might add,, and I don't think anyone would stand for it. We are a democracy afterall. It'd be stupid to antagonize its closest ally and trading partner when there's llittle to no reason for doing so.

Interesting thread. Late to the party.

Parents both from south eastern Quebec, who each came to Ontario in the late 1940s because thats where the work was, when they met (through relatives) in Toronto. So my brother and sisters were raised around the GTA in Ontario. I lived there until 2009 when I moved to Brockville, Ontario, where I am presently.

I’m French Canadian although my French needs some WD40.

My father was a proud Quebecer, but he had little patience with Quebec separatists. I find some of Quebec’s language laws ridiculous. While I appreciate Quebec’s culture is unique within Canada I draw the line with identifying it formally as a distinct nation as some would have it. From what I recall Pierre Elliott Trudeau didn’t care much for that idea either.

I have voted Liberal and Conservative over the years given who I thought was best equipped to govern. No, none of them were perfect, but I never expected them to be. I miss the Royal Canadian Air Face harkening back to when discussing politics wasn’t akin to declaring a blood feud and starting a knife fight. I have issues with the far left as well as the far right. They’re both fuckin’ nuts and their stupidity is even dangerous.

Back in the day I voted for Pierre Trudeau, but I’ve got no time for his doofus son. Justin can be rather Trump like only he has better hair and a better vocabulary.

Brian Mulroney looked like a bagman (how fitting) and Jean Chretien looked like the getaway driver. I hated Mulroney. Chretien was amusing and a lot smarter and sharper than he looked. I would take Stephen Harper over Justin Trudeau any day. Harper, like Chretien, kept the yahoos in his party in line. Justin is such a poser. I like Jagmeet Singh, but I can’t see the NDP running the country.. The Conservatives have a record of fielding disappointing and uninspiring candidates.

I know people supporting the trucker convoy in Ottawa, Windsor and other places. They, like the protestors, evidently know zilch about Canadian law and the Canadian constitution and Charter of Rights. The protestors were hardly freedom fighters—they were poster children for ignorant and spoiled whiners. They look particularly bad compared to real freedom fighters in Ukraine.

I like Doug Ford. There, I said it. He ain’t perfect, but I feel he’s sincere and a decent guy. I couldn’t stand Kathleen Wynn. And Andrea Horvath is irritating as hell everytime time she opens her mouth. Who the hell is Del Duca?

Despite a shockingly bad and embarrassing first half of the season I remain a Montreal Canadiens fans. It’s been great to see the transformation wrought by the new management team and the presence of Martin St. Louis as head coach. They ain’t gonna make the playoffs, but at least they play with some heart now and are entertaining.

I may be Canadian, but I don’t care for poutine, Labatts or Molson Canadian beer. I prefer Rickard’s Red. As for the other Putin someone needs to off the murderous prick.

Ruffles potato chips are my thing. I also love homemade crepes and French Toast made with French bread and syrup. Also grill cheese with bacon.

Why is Trump not yet in prison with all his shit known? And how in hell could he be allowed to run for office again? Seriously WTF!!

Yeah, this has been a rambling post. Sorry for the interruption.

Think ford has made some big mistakes and will continue to do as (Highway 413 anyone?) but at the of the day he's not scott moe and thank fuck he's not jason kenney or we'd be sunk so deep it wouldn't be funny.

horvath needs to go somewhere.

half del duca's problem is being elected leader while not in the parliament, the other half is the liberal should have gone with a clean skin.

doesn't matter if it's liberal or tory (will be a cold day in hell before the ndp ever gets elected to government again) when you've tossed out of office after many years in power, don't take you leaders from the old guard, people see it was been there, done that (and possible tainted). Get some new blood.

justin the boy blunder isn't much chop but what other choices have we really had? o'toole would have okay but the problem for Canada would have the people behind him.
