Looks like either the fake Dauntless (from "Hope and Fear") was based on existing Starfleet specs, or that the real Dauntless was intentionally built to resemble the fake one.

The real one was intentionally built to resemeble the fake one it seems.
Janeway originally said to VOY crew to familiarize themselves with the fake Dauntless from stim to stern (this was before they learned it was a fake, but the whole situation seemed 'too perfect' to Janeway)... so they took huge amounts of scans and technical data on the fake Dauntless along with learning how to control it which allowed Starfleet to make its own (also, look at the real Dauntless registry - its 80816 - MUCH higher than the Protostar - to me, this suggests the Protostar was built years ago, possibly while VOY was still in the DQ but wasn't assigned Chakotay as its captain or outfitted with the Proto-Core until VOY returned... the real Dauntless was built at some point after that (closer to 2383).

Guess now we know where that Dauntless-ish ship from the alternate 26th century (ENT's Battle of Procyon V) came from!

Haha... that too.
It could be that Starfleet will eventually retrofit their existing Dauntless exterior into a design that Arturis originally created... making it a complete 100% replica.
It will probably happen much sooner than the 26th century though... we can treat the 80816 as version 1 of SF's Dauntless... and the 26th century could be 80816 - B or C iteration (I suspect the full fake Dauntless replica refit of the exterior will happen by the 80816 - A - or in the next decade or two).

But the battle of Procyon V would not have happened anymore in the prime timeline if I'm not mistaken.

The NX-01 Enterprise destroyed the spheres which were maintaining and expanding the Expanse.
Daniels probably showed Archer a version of what will happen if the Expanse is left.

So, my guess is that the real USS Dauntless WILL be in the 26th century (probably at letter B or C), but the battle of Procyon V won't happen.

Dauntless reminds me a bit of one of the early versions of Voyager.
Yeah its like the Intrepid study model with a Dauntless skin.

Can I have the awesome lit-claw cute cat-character become a Prodigy crew member please.

I'm more of a dog person by the way ;)

I was hoping the formerly enslaved miners would have been become something like enlisted crew for the Protostar, with our heroes filling the commissioned officers role. It would have opened up a lot of good opportunities for storytelling.

I'm starting to think an alternate future timeline is involved somehow in the Protostar. That there was some crossover to the Prime timeline from a future that no longer exists from the perspective of the live action series.

A while back I mused that maybe Captain Chakotay is from that alternate timeline where Voyager crashed attempting to use the slipstream drive.

Great way to retcon that scene! Now we just need to see some new designs that kinda look like the Nova-class and the Vor'cha!

Phenomenal episode, considering it was supposed to be a kids show. I only wonder what really happened with Solus First Contact situation. Maybe it was an accident and the Federation didn't mean to intentionally contact such a divided society. Wouldn't be the first time. 9/10

According to the interview with Aaron Waltke, it was based on scans and info Voyager took of the fake Dauntless.
He pointed out that Voyager did make their own slipstream, probably based on scans they took of the Dauntless's, so that's the logic they're going with.

Highlights and Observations

Ha! I knew Janeway was faking! Good work by Gwyn who went and upgraded her systems to keep future security holes from causing trouble to the rest of the ship. Also, Janeway can take solid form, which is awesome, because I caught myself saying "get his ass, Janeway," when she was defending Gwyn from the Diviner.

Rok is going to be a fantastic engineer in the same vein as Scotty/LaForge/O'Brien/Torres/Tucker. I'm glad she wants to use her brain over her brawn, and she's good at it.

Murph is best helper.

J'ankom Pog finally got the chance to really shine. He seems like a good security officer rather than an engineer.

Zero going full Medusan was awesome. That was a great way to stop the Diviner, and it came out of left field, I wasn't expecting that kind of thing at all. To put it another way: "Wow!"

Poor Gwyn, first finding out the truth about their people, and then being mind blasted, well, mind flesh wounded, really, by Zero when he was making the Diviner insane in the membrane.

I seriously rooted for Dal as he went to rescue Gwyn. This show has solid character development all around.

Kitteh speaks and has claws. Adorable.

Speaking of... um... speaking, the little scene between the two miners was great. "I've kept these feelings locked away for so long.." sounds like a budding romance to me.

Final scene with Admiral Janeway heading off to get her Chakotay was pretty cool. Can't wait to see how that works out!

Ruminations

Well, now that we've got the basic plotline laid out, and very well I might add, I can't wait to see what lies ahead for our crew, especially when they encounter a Starfleet vessel, unless Gwyn remembers in time. I'm curious to see how that will develop. All in all this was a supremely satisfying season ending, while keeping it open for what may come in the season(s) ahead. Prodigy won me over in a handful of episodes, and had me cheering by the season finale. Not bad for a "kid's show." Good job, creative team. I can't wait to see what's next.

Final episode score: 10/10.

Season 1 score: 8/10. Get his ass, Janeway.

Really? Huh. According to Memory Alpha, the next set of episodes don't start until December 2022, though I guess that could be a placeholder.
Well, it may have been originally written as a Season finale. They originally got a 10 episode season, but then it was expanded to be 20.

Yeah, Prodigy has 2 20 episode season orders, each split into 10 episode arcs. And the only official information about the dates for the back half of season 1 is “later in 2022.” Strange New Worlds should end the first week of July, and Lower Decks is scheduled for this summer, but we have no other information at this point.

Well, it may have been originally written as a Season finale. They originally got a 10 episode season, but then it was expanded to be 20.

That’s a misconception from a widely reported piece of misinformation. Back in February Julie McNamara, formerly of ViacomCBS, had an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that specified that Prodigy’s first season was a 20 episode order to be split into 2 parts, and this was before they made the decision to move the first airing from Nickelodeon to Paramount+.

Julie McNamara via The Hollywood Reporter said:
The 20-episode order will be split in two parts, with Nick securing the first half ahead of the streaming launch of the second, etc.

Pretty much every source out there said it would be a 10 episode season from then until the season 2 renewal in November, but 9 months earlier the then Head of Programming for Paramount+ had explained the plan for the first season was always intended to be 20 episodes in 2 10 episode arcs.

If Diviner turns out to actually have been left in an asteroid all alone with no provisions suffering from Medusan madness, I will be pretty disgusted, and wonder how the kids came to think that was a good idea. Rok doesn't seem to be capable of such heartlessness, for one, I think the Janeway hologram would probably have an issue with it, and they would have to keep it a secret from Gwyn. Even if she hates him, she still has a kind of love for him, and I can't imagine she would be ok with him left to suffer and die, no matter his crimes.

According to Janeway's narration:

"As for the Diviner, he is now the sole unwanted. Banished to spend the rest of his life in the ruins of his own making."

Would it really be much less problematic for the guy to be in the custody of a bunch of minors and a hologram...?

Yes. One shows character. They may be incompetent at it, but they are trying to help someone and being responsible. The other is wiping their hands of the responsibility and exacting vengeance against the equivalent of a severely cognitively disabled person. Motivation matters a lot. I don't really want to follow the adventures of beings so callous as to do that. Especially since I like these kids.
