Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

In the comics, the older Cassandra Webb was eventually replaced by Julia Carpenter, a younger woman was also an ex-Spider-Woman. So the general assumption is that Dakota Johnson is probably playing Julia Carptenter.
The question for me then, which I haven't seen picked up anywhere, is if they are going to skip the Webb version altogether, or have her die and Carpenter take over in the movie? And will Carptenter have been Spider-Woman, or will she go right to Madame Webb?

Well, they did Venom without any connection to Spider-Man, so they're open to changing/simplifying origins.

Yeah, Crowe is a lot closer to the comics' version of Sergei than Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

I have no idea what I just watched. No, quite literally. My eyes and brain couldn't process it. But I heard Matt Smith, so that's a point in its favor. I guess. His movie choices post-Doctor Who have been pretty weak.

Well, he looks like Morbius.

I disliked Leto in Suicide Squad and the Blade Runner sequel because he was too affected and quirky. Here, he seems to be giving a much more understated performance, yet I find him quite bland.

Keaton's inclusion is puzzling. Hasn't it been established that the Sony Marvelverse is an alternate reality from the MCU? So is this Toomes's doppelganger? Or is he even Toomes?

Or unlucky. He never really got to continue with the role set up for him in Terminator, he was almost in he Rise of Skywalker playing a big role but scripts changed and it never happened. I don't understand why Disney hasn't nabbed him for the MCU.

Maybe the Game Of Thrones prequel will be a hit for him. (Or it'll turn out that people aren't interested after how bad the original ended.)

But on the subject of Morbius, I'll see pretty much anything superhero/comic book related (even Billy Zane's Phantom!) but this is drumming up no excitement in me.

I heard rumor that Calypso might appear. Great casting choice, even if Calypso's inclusion is odd.

But then Sony completely reworked Venom's origin to exclude Spider-Man so it's all that surprising.

Possibly, but has it been confirmed that this is in the same universe as Venom?

It takes place in the universe of the PS4/5 Spider-Man games according to the first trailer.

Or some lazy set decorator made a mistake.

Take your pick.

Well, Sony's made a big deal of promoting their films as a shared universe, under various names -- "Sony's Marvel Universe," "Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters," "Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters," and currently "Sony's Spider-Man Universe."

How can that be if there's no PS4/5 Spider-Man in the universe?

That's for them to answer...

IIRC, the Morbius trailer has a “spider-man - murderer” headline somewhere in it, which lots of people took to be a reference to the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. But a lot of people are now interpreting it to be a reference to the “dark path” mentioned in No Way Home, setting it in the Amazing Spider-Man universe. A bit of a stretch, but a fun piece of speculation, given the belated love for Andrew Garfield’s incarnation. Plus IIRC, Morbius also showed a Daily Bugle headline, whereas the Bugle of the MCU is a podcast rather than newspaper.
