Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

Yeah, I don't think that Morbius is moving to April because its a better time of year, the movie was moved to the January death slot for a reason. Its definitely omicron making them move it, they want (or need) it to be released theatrically, and make at least some money back. I seriously doubt this movie would end up doing well even if it released unopposed, in the best month of the year for films, with no COVID in sight, much less in the current circumstances.

Is the moving of Morbius to take advantage of a generally more lucrative April date (January is a box office grave yard)?

I'm hearing talk - since his return in No Way Home was so warmly welcomed - that they're doing last minute reshoots to retcon the 'Murderer' Spidey glimpsed in that trailer to be Andrew "stopped pulling my punches" Garfield's Spidey. IOW, they're merging the Venomverse and ASMverse to set the stage for Garfield's long-delayed trilogy capper.

Dakota Johnson to play Madame Web for Sony, which is bizarre on two levels.

Firstly out of all the female characters they have rights to (including multiple Spider-Women and Spider-Girls) why pick this one?

And secondly why would Dakota Johnson want to play a blind old woman who permanently sits in a chair and hands out vague prophecies to other people? (And if they're going to completely change the character in order to make her an active superhero, well, read my first point again.)

I guess if they are going with the Julia Carpenter version, it allows them to dodge the issue that Cassandra Webb is a mutant.

Because Sony.

Huh. Until I read the article, I just assumed she was cast to voice Madame Web in the upcoming Across the Spider-Verse but I see now that's for a live action film. That is odd.
