Shazad Latif Talks Section 31 Series And Why Tyler Was Left Behind In ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2
When pressed on more details about the spin-off, Latif said he had “no idea” what was going on but acknowledged that Michelle Yeoh is a “very busy woman,” pointing out one of his best friends co-starred with her on the upcoming Netflix mini-series Witcher: Blood Origin.
Well given Kurtzman is the one running the Production office for the current slate of Star Trek shows; if he hasn't moved on; it will probably still happen at some point as long as Michelle Yeoh is still interested and available. There's a lot of speaking about the show in the past tense from Latif. Seems he's moved on from the project somewhat, even if Kurtzman hasn't.

They have 3 live action shows in production (Two in Canada, one in L.A.) and they've stated they wouldn't be doing another one until one of those 3 end - and that will mostly likely be Picard, as Patrick Stewart signed for 3 seasons, and yes, they could do another contract for a 4th if he's still interested after Season 3 -but there's other stuff he still wants to do (like King Lear); and I'm sure he's aware of his age, so even though he's enjoying it from all reports - he may decide to move on after Season 3.
But like anything in Hollywood (via Canada) - nothing's set in stone until the contracts are signed and the cameras roll.
I think they want to try and get all their series to the 'magic' 100 episode mark (or close to it).I'd like it to happen. I just can't help feeling Section 31 will end up as one of the many, many untaken paths in Star Trek history at this point. I think we know Michelle Yeoh likes her part and I'd love to see her back but... Well. Fingers crossed I guess.
As to Picard S4, who knows? I have a feeling they will wind Discovery up first after S5. Time will tell.

Terrestrial TV isn't a dead as many would like to think and studios always like to keep their options open to sell content. I mean hell, CBS spent money on making TOS HD (and redoing the optical effects via CGI) because it was still being sold in syndication and they felt they could make money off it for decades to come still - and in fact are.
The rough schedule, she said, is to debut “a new ‘Trek’ a quarter” on Paramount Plus.
There’s a Paramount+ investor call on February 15th, so we may get something there. Then again, we could get nothing, but worth keeping an eye on that date regardless.
And this is why we don't skim things, kids! Thanks. It’s worth mentioning that the portion you quoted isn’t new, it’s from this article/interview conducted a year ago, that they refer to at the beginning of the previous paragraph with “Back in February,” and linked to in the new article, and the statement about new “Trek a quarter” was referring to this last year, and I believe as well as the future.
And starting in the next fiscal quarter they debuted the second season of Lower Decks, and there hasn’t been a more than a week with no new Trek since, and with 10 episode seasons (or half season cycles for Prodigy) have a new season of Trek debuting each quarter.

Michelle Yeoh’s Section 31 spin-off — first announced in January 2019 — still has some kind of life to it, at least, as Paramount+’s head of scripted programming Nicole Clemens said earlier today that development continues and some news on that show should be coming “soon,” but still nothing concrete past the it’s-still-alive standpoint.
With nine full seasons of Star Trek still ahead of us, already announced, any Section 31 news will be an interesting surprise — perhaps it’s in line to follow Picard after it departs in 2023, or will end up being some other kind of project separate from the ongoing shows.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
