It's not a question of 'good' or 'bad.' It completely misses the point of the idea of making the Talosians more alien.
The Talosians are as alien as they need to be.
Introducing pointless gimmicks like using female voices and male actors - THAT is what's missing the point. It was a gimmick back then, it's even more of a gimmick now.

They were alien enough. Vina was more distracting than the Talosians were.
Vina was Melissa George that alone is awesome
Mileage will vary. Actors/actresses alone don't make for awesome viewing.
True but I found her portrayal of Vina very good. One of my favourite season 2 episodes.

You're entitled to your opinion. I felt that if the producers were going to recreate characters from 'The Cage,' that they at least try to recreate what made them unique in the first place. That, I feel they didn't do. The Talosians were just another alien race, and Vina was just some other woman with the same name, and had very little in common with the character as played by Susan Oliver. Of course, that's exactly how I feel about DSC's Sarek and Spock, too.
Emily Coutts proves that theory wrong.
She plays Detmer on DSC. And I’m not quite sure how she ‘proves’ anything wrong. Thinking any particular actor or actress is ‘awesome’ is entirely subjective.
They'll always count to me...

Detmer is awesome. Her and Owosekun should be upgraded to main characters. Both actresses have done great with the material they've been given.
