Is Star Trek: Picard lasting 7 seasons a possibility?

On top of everything else, let's not forget that we're still living in the era of covid. That makes it more likely the show will not go on for too long I think.

Actually covid makes it somewhat more likely that he might choose to do more Trek. He loves the stage, but thanks to covid stage work has been decimated. You have some measure of control over filming, but an audience.....Good luck.

Of course he could just step back and take time off and not work on anything (or film), but stage is a bigger risk.

I have no idea if Stewart is one of those who just wants to always work or not.

I could see that.

Given that Rios was the focus of one of the three tie-in novels already published I'd say there's a non-zero chance of PIC getting retooled/rebranded as La Sirena, Rios or something similar, particularly if Jeri says onboard.
I really hope they do something with Rios, Laris and the others after Picard is over, because it'd be a shame to only give them three seasons.
Thread premise is kind of morose, so I'm just talking about him bowing out after 3 to go on to do many other things.
If he did bow out after 3, I do wonder if the rest of the crew would still hold any interest as a spin-off without him? So far it's hard to imagine, after 3, depends how well they are developed.
The dynamic would be different, yet the whole point is he kind of puts together this broken team outside the purview of Starfleet, so they could go on doing their own thing,
I would definitely give it a shot.
the crew trying to live up to the ideals and legacy of Picard..
This^!

Not to put a curse on it as well, but Stewart is hardly frail. Shatner went into space at 90, so there’s no reason we couldn’t get another few seasons out of Sir Patrick.

I was touched by the anecdote… Patrick taking a stroll with Jonathan Frakes between Picard takes and talking about how wonderful it was to be working with old friends. I think TNG was a family cast, more so than any other Trek show. They still keep in touch all these years later.

I suppose what I’m saying is, if Patrick is in the twilight years of his career, making Picard isn’t such a bad way for him to spend them, for us and him.

In a recent(ish) interview I recall him saying he’s still looking for bigger challenges in his career. Hardly a guy who’s winding down.

I hope he finishes Season 3, hangs up the uniform only to come back in another 20 years when he’s 100 years old.

He’s such a cool cat too. A fashion icon at 80, a consummate gent and one of the finest actors ever to grace the franchise.

This intent of this thread goes well beyond the realms of good taste. Anyway, I’ve said my bit and I’m out of this particular discussion.

Stewart reportedly signed a three season deal originally. If he decides he wants to do more at most I can see him maybe doing a season 4 and 5 if they are shot back to back like seasons 2 & 3 were. My hunch is if they knew for sure that season 3 was going to be the last for sure, it would be promoted as such. I also think that there is a possibility they might spin Picard off with something starting Jeri Ryan particularly if the show does in fact end after season 3.

A lady got thrown off a flight for refusing to wear a mask.

I can just imagine some entitled diva pulling something similar in a theater on London's West End (especially after paying £150+ to see Sir Patrick on stage :( ).

The answer from Patrick Stewart to the question of will Picard go past season 3, is: "No."

Screen Rant: Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Will Be Its Last, Confirms Patrick Stewart.

SFX pushed back on that interpretation. Stewart could have been using the phrase "end of the series" as they do in the UK to mean "end of the season" in US talk. There is no actual confirmation that 3 is the end of the show.

Aside from the fact he initially signed for 3 seasons and he's not mentioning signing for a 4th.

Dave Blass, a production designer on Picard, also implied on Twitter that the show ending after season 3 was news to him (or at least they are unsure if this is it): https://twitter.com/DaveBlass/status/1486385811251556356. In the SFX interview, Akvia Goldsmith was asked about a 4th season and he said "the future is unknown." Last week, LeVar Burton basically confirmed on Entertainment Tonight that he was in talks to appear on Picard. Given they are currently filming the last episode of season 3 right now, that would imply there is going to be a 4th season. That being said, Burton could be misleading and has already filmed stuff (Goldsmith basically confirmed in SFX that the remaining TNG regulars will appear before the end of the third season). So, there may be more and they may not be.

Why would he do that? He has been on 2 American shows and knows the lingo. They are probably being coy because it wasn't planned to let that slip now. They probably wanted to drop a teaser at the end of S2 announcing the final season in 2023, or at the very least announce it on their own terms, not as a one off line from an Actor in an interview for some publication. SFX is probably aware of the problem this has created for Paramount and is trying to do damage control.

At this point they need to come clean if it truly is ending because it would be really lame to decide that later after it has basically been announced by the star.
