What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

They're still one of my all-time least favorite Trek uniforms but they're not as bad as I used to believe them to be. The Admiral's uniform was so good that even J.J. Abrams used a version of it for Pike in both the ending of Trek 2009 and Into Darkness.

TMP is a mixed bag uniform wise. The short sleeves with the v necks are pretty good. As is the Admiral's uniform. The round necks, with and without the the long shirt, not so much. The engineering gear is pretty sweet, as well. Not a fan of the big jackets for landing parties, though.

I like that it was a throwback to "The Cage(TOS)" and in retrospect the ENT Era but I'm glad they ditched them. The oversized landing party parkas for TWOK were even worse.

I like the TMP uniforms better than I do DSC's from Seasons 1 and 2.

And I never thought it would get that far.

Honestly, I like aspects of the early DSC uniforms but I feel like they need some modifications to make certain things clearer, like rank insignia and how the silver variants differ from the gold (as in some of the lighting, they wind up looking very similar). I feel like DSC has always been a tad weird with uniforms. :rommie:

That single collar tab is one of the dumbest things Trek costume designers have ever put on a Starfleet uniform. Were it just a solid, straight collar it would make the uniform look at least a little better. Asymmetric and Starfleet uniforms aren't the best of friends.

TMP is definitely a mixed bag. The colors of the uniforms are irritating in their at time inscrutability compared to TOS. The field jackets are just poorly thought out smocks. However, the admiral's uniform, security gear, engineering gear and medical outfits are well done.

What's even more interesting to me is the tendency, even in TMP, to associate blue with command.

I blame TNG ;)

In some of the BTS promo photos characters are wearing different colors and even different cuts.

Interesting. I had not seen those. Part of my annoyance is that the color system is not so easily understood. It is also one of my annoyances with TWOK Monster Maroon's too.

Does Scotty ever wear this outfit in the film?

It looks like the fastener on Scotty's jacket is a clasp or button in the shape of a Starfleet delta insignia.

Controversial Opinions:
1- TMP uniforms look great.
2- The uniforms in the original cast movies from Wrath on look like the crew is in a marching band. They are horrible. They should be in the Rose Parade instead of on a Starship.

YES. Thank you! Star Trek has long had an issue with uniforms that aren't very practical as uniforms. It's why my favourite Trek uniforms of all are the ones from Enterprise, because they look like something practical that actual officers working on an actual ship might actually wear. They have pockets!

Well, they are very practical as uniforms because they all look very uniform.

They are not practical as duty wear. Which is why it is ridiculous that Starfleet has such a limit on the types of uniforms that officers were, with it being a duty uniform and a dress uniform. They need field utilities, a work uniform, and a coverall.

I don't like TMP because it looks ridiculously uncomfortable to wear.

That's what I always thought about the "monster maroons" – they look stiff and extremely warm. (I'm just guessing, I've never worn one.) Also – I hate the feeling of something around my neck, so a turtleneck is right out!

I at least like two pieces in a uniform.
