Backup EMH

Absolutely.

I've been wondering what the Doctor has been up to, both the original and the backup, and have wanted to see them in the future again, and given my recent disappointment with some of the storyline choices of Discovery, may as well serve as a vessel for such things to.

And anything to give some life back to the show, cause I love the crew and set-up and circumstances, but I've been consistently been disappointed with the delivery – even on stories I liked. Plus, the seeming connection to the past continuity of this show has been repeated mentions of Spock, which – Spock being my favourite character – is a bit repetitive.

On the other hand
, I'm not sure I'm not sure fan service without more to it alone would do it any favours. Well, some of the fan service has been good, and when it has been bad it has given me enough to enjoy in otherwise not splendid storyline, so I'm still vote aye, aye. (We're pirates)

(My feelings aside, I'm sure Picardo will get a cameo one of those days, but in the unlikely event that it happens on Discovery instead of Picard, it wouldn't be The Doctor from Voyager, but another EMH).

Am I curious what happened to him and would I be happy to see him? Of course, him (or, more precisely, his original) and Seven were the best parts of Voyager for me. But would I insist on including him? I think I'd be just fine if he didn't show up.

The biggest problem with including him would be that he lacks a thematic connection to anyone or anything other than the timeframe and the existence of a Voyager-J; even the crew of the Discovery who would be the most relatable to him, come from more than a century before his creation. There is definitely (for me at least) a valuable story to tell in how he'd cope with everyone he ever knew being dead or how he changed after living for a millennium, but I think a cameo or even a guest appearance in a series he's not related to in any way couldn't do justice to it. If someone wanted to tell his story, let it be completely his own.

nfortunately The Burn happens in 3069 and the events of Living Witness happen in 3074.
We don't know exactly when Living Witness takes place. Sounds like you're doing the Okuda thing of assuming that just because they said 700 years in the episode, it was exactly 700 years to the day. People can round to the nearest hundred, you know. But I guess Trek Canon doesn't make allowances for generalizations, does it?

Doesn't matter, the backup EMH remained on that planet for a long while afterwards... There's a decent chance it was at least early in the 32nd when the backup went off for "home".

Yeah, that Finn said. The Doctor stayed on that planet for an unspecified amount of years before leaving.

He could have left after the Burn.

Nope.

Frankly, I find it an odd choice to pick the 31st Century specifically, and not at least mention that "Living Witness" backup-Doc.

Besides the backup-Doctor, I'm also a bit antsy to see Captain Braxton, and Odo. (I love one person's suggestion that Kovich turn out to be Odo.)
