Cobra Kai - The Karate Kid Saga Continues

yeah really looking forward to this, one of the only shows I binge watched.

I mean its sort of crap but in a good way, it tongue in cheek the acting isn't great, it's cheesy, the fight scene in the school was ludicrous...

I love it

Creese: “How’d you like to give up your wealthy affluent life to teach teenagers to beat each other up?”

Silver; “You son of a bitch, I’m in!”

Just finished binging the entire season of Cobra Kai. It's a really strong season IMO. I like the theme that Lawrence and LaRusso's different karate styles are not opposites but complementary to each other. The season also does a great job of building up towards the finale. The season finale delivers a fantastic payoff. The championship is great with lots of exciting fights. The fights are top notch. But what really makes the finale so good are the plot twists towards the end that set up for hopefully next season. WOW!

‪‪I sat down when ‪‪I got up several hours before dawn this morning, fully intending to only watch the first five episodes, and ‪‪I ended up binging the entire season in one sitting.

Just like the previous seasons, this show continues to be better than it has any right to be. ‪‪I love this show so much, and they’ve been very successful at making me invested in so many characters

Just finished. AAHH!! Holy hell!

Silver’s explanation for his actions in the third movie was the best thing ever!

I CANNOT wait for season 5!

I think my favorite moments was when Silver betrays Kreese and we see the cops show up to arrest Kreese. We see in a flashback that Stringray made a deal with Silver to blame Kreese for his assault. As the cops arrest Kreese, Silver just stands there with his evil grin. Chilling. I also loved the scene at the cemetery with LaRusso talking at Mr. Miyagi's grave site and we see Chozen who agrees to help LaRusso take down Cobra Kai. Both scenes do a great job of teasing Season 5.

I wonder how Miyagi Do will stay open next season since according to the deal they were supposed to shutdown if Cobra Kai won the Championship. I could see several options. We did see Silver colluding with the referee so we know Cobra Kai cheated to win the Championship. That should nullify the deal. Maybe Cobra Kai's cheating will be revealed in Season 5? Or maybe LaRusso will start a new dojo with a new name. There were some hints of this. I think LaRusso says something at Miyagi's grave site like "you won't like what I need to do." That could be a reference to teaming up with Chozen or it could refer to disbanding Miyagi Do. Also, we saw LaRusso and Lawrence tell Samantha to find her own style of Karate in her final match. And Lawrence and LaRusso seem to figure out that they need both styles to win. So perhaps, LaRusso and Lawrence will start a new dojo that will be a mix of styles?

Season 4 wasn't as strong as the previous seasons but that doesn't mean it doesn't kick the asses of everything else out there. I thought Terry Silver's arc was a bit muddled but I like how it finished.

Did anyone expect
Hilary Swank to show up at the end? It just seemed perfectly set up for that....

Tory seeing the bribe in action so to speak was definitely setup for season 5, so i expect this to be resolved in the finale at the latest, maybe even very soon to nullify the "deal" they had. It also may lead to Tory finally leaving Cobrai Kai as the seeds had been planted by Daniel's wife no less that she has options and she was perhaps the first person to show kindness towards her in a long time. However the feud between her and Sam is still unresolved and will continue into season 5.

Daniel may perhaps go on the offense, something that Mr. Miyagi always taught against but he also told him to find his own way and i believe in Daniel's position Mr. Miyagi would understand - he once was cornered to by Sato too in Karate Kid 2 and would have fought even if it was against everything he believed. Daniel is now in the corner and he must step out if his comfort zone to resolve the situation.

I agree with the notion that Daniel and Johnny need to cooperate - there was an attempt this season but it failed because both of them were not quite there yet but their students showed them that their styled combined is indeed very powerful Karate - Miyagi Do for Defense and Eagle Fang for Offense ( still can't stop cringing and laughing at Johnny's "style"). I think the biggest roadblock was Daniel in that regard with his ironclad adherence to the old way - not that Johnny's blunt and over the top macho way leads to good results necessarily but bullys never respond to peaceful solutions. However i am a bit concerned about how easily Daniel adopts an aggressive stance - some over the line jabs at his wife and he goes berserk? Mr. Miyagi would have been extremely disappointed in Daniel at that moment.

I was very surprised to see Chozen at the end and not quite sure i like it - that storyline in season 3 was the worst. I just can't buy superprick Chozen, who wanted to kill Daniel and was run out of town in shame twice, having a massive 180 turn characterwise as depicted in the show - it's one of the few black spots in the show for me so i hope they expand a bit on Chozens time after the events of KK2 to make it more believable.

So it's likely that in season 5...

Kreese will get a redemption arc with Silver as the main villain. However, the only reason Silver is the main villain is because Kreese undid all those years of therapy by poking and prodding Silver's PTSD, so how do you get redemption for doing that?

Additionally, I predict that
It will be revealed that Kreese is Johnny’s dad. The scene where Silver was beating the sand out of Johnny showed a very conflicted look on Kreese’s face, akin to when Palpatine was using force lightning on Luke and Vader was looking back and forth between them deciding how to intervene in ROTJ. The age difference is correct and there was a pair of combat boots in the box that Johnny was keeping of his dad’s things. Has Kreese ever been shown on-screen drinking a can of Coors during any of the movies or the course of the show? I agree that next season is definitely setting up for a redemption arc. I hope they don’t write Johnny out of the show for his Mexico search for Miguel. Mexico City, IIRC, has one of the highest, if not the highest, population of any city on the planet. That will not be an easy search.

Revealing that Kreese is Johnny's long lost dad sounds a bit too soap opera to me. Just my personal opinion.

Oh, very much agreed. I didn’t say it would be a good choice, but there definitely seems to be hints they’ve been dropping this season to that effect. :)

But does Daniel know about Hilary Swank's character? I don't see why Miyagi should never have told him about her, but it's kind of weird that Daniel never mentioned her (but not impossible of course).

Good breakdown of season 4 and speculation for season 5.

Same. I think I figured out the shows success formula.

They fully embrace the 80s movie cheese peppered with nostalgia and heart and combine it with modern intricate story telling, great diverse character arcs that are ultimately rewarding, with no black and white stereotypes.

It’s almost like they managed to combine a certain old school defensive karate style with a new aggressive but bad ass one and turned it into some cool emergent powerhouse of awesomeness.

The show’s storytelling is Miyagi Fang!
