Spoilers My main suspects for the anomaly.

It won't be V'Ger anymore than The Red Angel = Iconians or Vulcans = Ancient Synths. It'll be it's own thing.

Given the solutions that the writers have come up with for the Klingon war, Red Angel, and Burn, I can’t say I hold out a ton of hope for a good solution to this year’s macguffin either.

not anything terrible in and of itself, but when these are the big arcs of the season, they don’t hang together well when viewed all at the same time.

kinda like diagramming a terrorist plot from a season of 24. You can follow the episodes just fine, but laying it out and imagining someone planned that out ahead of time and expected it to work out is just dumb….

Having just caught up to 4x04, based on what we've learned thus far, I think the DMA is a cosmozoan, a living entity, even if it's only living in the sense that a plant is. I also believe it's a living dark matter proto-star system, which is why it has an accretion cloud. Eventually the cloud will become a disc, and it will form into a star system with dark matter star - if such a thing is even possible.

I hope its connected to Discovery's Spore-Drive so that ( for Star Trek !) ridiculous Drive can be buried !

Think it needs to be an an entity, with which one can negotiate. Technobabble solutions aren't Discovery's style.

That's another point for me, why i think it might be Nagilum or V'Ger and not the Graviton Ellipse or another mindless cosmic phenomenon.

In discussions, people bring up the idea that the anomaly is an allegory for COVID-19 or climate change.
If there is an intelligence behind the anomaly with whom you can negotiate, or it was caused deliberately, it would negate allegory.

If the anomaly is a COVID-19 allegory and there is an intelligence behind it, that would mean that the Discovery writers support lab leak and conspiracy theories. I don't know if they want to do that, or if they can grasp what they are getting into.

Remember Picard season 1 and how the allegories backfired against the writers?
The Federation lost its way because they are xenophobic against the Romulans and hate androids.
Well, it turns out, according to the story, xenophobia is justified because the Romulans are treacherous, deceitful, and attacked the Federation, and mistrust of androids is justified because they can be reprogrammed into killer bots in an instant.

This is the level of writers that we are dealing with here.

Not necessarily. If it's a living thing, which possibly isn't aware of or possibly not considering the damage it causes, it might be representing the covid denyers and unvaccinated people endangering others.

Ya know, its possible that the writers of Discovery didn’t realize that they can do follow ups to certain stories when they first wrote S3 and decided that they can revisit the idea at a later date.

A good deal of the writing is aimed at attracting a younger audience. And that may be where their focus is at first, and not TNG stories from 30 years ago.
I mean they literally had the Guardian of Forever in season 3 so...

Trek 2009 referenced "Canamar" from Season 2 of ENT, an episode that even many regular Trek fans of the '00s might not remember even happened. The franchise does love a good esoteric, out-of-nowhere reference even if it goes over most viewers' heads and most of the time I like or even love it.

I'm getting a little nervous regarding the Dark Matter anomaly now, given the latest episode seems to establish someone caused it.

As I see it, the problem is both possibilities from here on out are retreads.
  • If it's an active malevolent power, it's just "defeat the bad guys" once again.
  • On the other hand, if it's something happening by accident, it feels like a retread of The Burn.
