Spoilers My main suspects for the anomaly.

I for one don't need a follow up to Nagilum, V'Ger or environmentally bad warping.

Neither do I. I doubt what we're seeing has anything to do with those three. I still say it's either an intelligence in its own right (in some ways it could be the life form that was created when V'Ger merged with Decker) or under control of one, given how it moves unpredictably.

Given how popular VOYAGER is with audiences in the current era, I wouldn't be surprised if the anomaly is related to the space twisting lifeform from "TWISTED". It was sentient. Maybe this one is it's sibling, or even child or grandchild of the one from "TWISTED".

(Mind you, I thought that episode was terrible, but it's just a theory.)

Or given the shape of the anomaly we see at the end, it could be related to the graviton ellipse from "ONE SMALL STEP". And that thing was also moving erratically with no way to predict where and when it would pop up.

While I don't think it's Nagilum, there's some interesting thoughts as to why it's theorized here.

(I personally think "Where Silence Has Lease" is a great TNG episode. It definitely began the season 2 feeling of the dangerousness of space that seemed to be a recurring theme through TNG season 2, which is something I miss from the franchise. I also don't think Nagilum was forgettable.)

Additional food for thought about the possibility of The Prophets being involved with this wormhole- like anomaly. The presence of the new Bajoran/ Cardassian Fed President this series. Just something floating around in me head.

I'm still sticking with my theory that it's the Graviton Ellipses bigger meaner cousin.

But the DMA was supposed to be a reference/analogy to the COVID Pandemic.

They even state it clearly that it's supposed to reference it as previous Treks had seasons mirroring reality.

Agreed that it looks much like the graviton ellipse.

It also looks much like an eye. I feel like there is an eye in an episode in the past and it could be related to that, but I am really tired and my brain is failing me at the moment.

How should the 32nd Century appear?
With tasteful wallpaper, everyone having evolved a second backup nose in case their primary nose is runny (think about it, and you will realize the convenience. Hell I want one, now), lots of Brutalist concrete public structure, and angry sentient apes, and possibly even angrier blue sentient Andorrian apes, and much less angry Vulcan apes. Food in the form of colored dodecahedrons, everyone wearing cellophane leggings with panties on the outside regardless of gender or lackthereof, human centipedeism as a life choice, giant c-band satellite dishes everywhere for no discernible reason, and a hammerspace hole you can take with you to put your stuff in or get it out.

Maybe a lot less blue glow. They bought blue glowy lighting on bulk in the future.

Even if they were going to do a callback to Voyager, I can think of far more memorable episodes than Twisted.

Its Gul Dukat, secretly still alive on a secret planet in a cave, hooked up to some wires, planning his revenge centuries later, using his great, great, great....etc granddaughter as a pawn to help him.
