I have to say that I don't get creeped out by weird looking peple or creatures in science fiction movies and tv shows.
I remember a dream which I had when I was 11 or younger. I saw a swarmof critters go floating by. Ocotpuses, and squid, and cabs, and lobsters, and insects, and spiders etc. I had seen pictures of themin zoology books and was sort of familiar with what they looked like.
I don't rmember that scene is my dream as any type of scarey mightmare, but just as another goofy dream scene.
So it is kind of amusing to read people write how they were creeped out by how some person or creature looked instead of by what it did.

I thought that scene was a bit clumsy since we heard her scream in terror but then her face was neutral instead of being contorted with a rictus, as would befit someone dying in agony.
Yeah, that was a strange idea to make him play a kid. He looks thirty at least.
When I was a kid, Geordi turning into an alien in "Identity Crisis" freaked me out, especially the scene where his hand changed. And "Schisms" and "Genesis" terrified me.

It changed for me too. The appearance of the "Schisms" aliens isn't scary anymore for me now. What still works is the lack of knowledge about why they do what they do, their silence and that it may be impossible to really understand them and the reason for their "experiments" and to communicate with them.
Subtle horror elements like these scare me a lot more than creature design, splatter and gore.

True, but I don't think that's the case here. We can't see anything at all, even after having identified "its shadow". Mimetism is only effective in certain directions, when you move you can see it detached itself from the background.
I never saw Schisms as a kid, but I did see Genesis and....that one didn't terrify me, personally. I can totally see why it would others though.
I just was one of those kids who was *really* into dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, so I found the episode quite interesting, though I was disappointed that nobody turned into a dinosaur.
However, now as an adult I find Genesis horrible. not only did at least one person die, yet the end has the characters smile over Barclay's neurotic behaviour but...
For god's sakes! Picard and Data just leave Spot's *newborn kittens* mewling on the floor instead of helping them!!!

As a Filipino... I was like... "hey my mom eats that!" I never acquired a taste for it. Guess, I'm just too Americanized as a first-generation born.
Also, the Cardassians drink patis (fish sauce) for breakfast. Well, hot fish juice.
