Tom Riker, Will Riker's transport clone. This poor b@srard got the rawest deal. First he's stranded for 8 years; then, after learning a double has basically "stollen" his entire life, he sets out to create a new one for himself, fights for a cause he believes in, and ends up imprisoned again, this time in a Cardassian concentration camp. Much like Tasha Yar, it seems the universe just really likes to f@ck with poor Tom.

Bar the novels, which contradict each other and aren't canon, we don't know Tom Riker's fate. I'd love for him to pop up on "Picard." Sure, he'll be a retired workshop Santa like his counterpart Will, but I'll bet he'd have some interesting stories to tell.

If Tom Riker does return, what do you think his role and backstory should be?

Kira lived up to her promise and got him out of a Cardassian jail, where he was experimented on. He then hooked up with Ro Laren, and their kid was sent to live with Vedek Kira on DS9 while they live on Freecloud somewhere under new identities.

I like it, except for ditching their kid. There's plenty of galaxy for the whole family to live in, outside Federation and Cardassian space. I'm sure they'd still take fake names just to avoid bounty hunters though.

Or, hell, Bajor might geant both amnesty for their service against Cardassia. In that case I could easily see Tom going native, and even taking Ro's surname, partially to differentiate himself further from Will Riker.

Most of Marquis were death in their struggle against Cardassian. So I suspect that he also has been killed in Action too. And that's included Lieutenant Ro.

Nah... Ro's either pouring drinks or sitting on a bar stool in a red dress, looking super sultry. She and Tom escaped the purge together in a stolen Cardassian shuttle, which they sold to buy the bar. Maybe we'll see them on "Lower Decks" in a season or two.

Yeah, I reckon the Cardassians kept him around, maybe with some brainwashing to use as a spy against the Federation, but when the Dominion came onboard, they just shrugged and said "We have the Founders for that" and just genocided Tom along with all the other Maquis in Cardassian custody (and probably most of the former Federation colonies in Cardassian territory).

Until a corpse is produced, we get to speculate. Given that death is flexible on Star Trek (Janeway did it 17 times and they made her an admiral), we can speculate regardless.
Of course. It's the subject of speculation that I find the most amusing.

I like the idea of him hooking up with Ro Laren. I also kind of like the idea of him being a semi-retired, settled-down family man post-Maquis, but with a lot of secret weaponry and tricks still stashed away – he and Will Riker ultimately end up in a similar place, just with a very different journey.
