They cast a really good actor, irrelevant of ethnicity or gender. If they can do that again, I'm ok with that.

And is it stunt casting or reflecting the diversity of the modern world and giving opportunities to people from certain groups who were historically precluded from even being considered to play the alien with two hearts whose entire body regenerates every few years...

I kinda wish we could skip forward a few regenerations to a point where it almost doesn't matter who plays the Doctor, but as others have said everyone's going to have an opinion on this.

Hire a white man and you're just defaulting to what's gone before

Hire a person of colour and its stunt casting (frankly if Jo Martin is an example of stunt casting then bring it on!)

Lydia West has been awesome in everything I've seen her in, and RTD has used her twice now in Years and Years and It's a Sin (and Moffat's used her once and is using her again, I think Edited to add, yes he is she's in his new show)

Never watched it but am very curious why people feel that way about the ending, what happened that upset people?

Also people forgetting Jo Martin is funny to me because she would have made a great Doctor and not afraid to use a gun.

The writing became really bad. I won't go into any more detail but once the show runners went past what GRRM had committed to print, they didn't have a clue how to structure the story cohesively and consistently. It was an utter mess. In fact it was so bad I never want to watch any of it ever again.

I had no issues with how Game of Thrones ended (although I agree they also wasted Sid!).

But what do I know? I had no issues with how LOST ended either.

You know the BSG ending is one that I really did not like.
It's Fiction people so why didn't they do something bold or different with the ending?

I would have preferred they found their Earth and lived with the natives and taught them basic stuff and had kept some of their technology instead of going native. Also it could have opened up potential for more stories with friendly cylons and such. The way it ended just sucked.

Also contributing to the backlash against the ending was the fact that the creators spent 7 seasons lying through their teeth about one of the series' most popular characters.

I hated it, but I've read the books and watched the show. So I knew the characters, the plot lines and the setting. I can't see coming in on the final act of a play or the last chapter of a book and saying it sucked. Makes no sense.

I was never the biggest fan of BSG and right from the start I realised there were only two possible endings (well three if they went down the BSG1980 route) They found earth and it was the distant past and they became our ancestors, or they found earth and it was the future.

GRRM has apparently stated that he will go in a different direction. If they did use his outline, the show apparently exposed its weaknesses.

There are other possible endings but none are particularly satisfying or entertaining ones. But, hey, who says life has to have meaning or be satisfying? That's unrealistic. I thought the ending made sense as I had predicted it during season one. It's the eternal return of Nietzsche, J M Barrie, and Ecclesiastes 1:9-18.

Yes! For example, Daenerys Targaryen crucified 163 Great Masters of Meereen to prove a point. She wasn't averse to violence to get her way. The problem was I don't think the directors conveyed to Emilia Clarke that she needed to portray an abused woman who had a simmering, underlying ruthlessness and sense of entitlement. I don't think Daenerys's behaviour was the result of her experiences; I think it was in her genes - it was nature, not nurture all along.

What a brilliant idea for relaunching the series, binging in new viewers and bringing back lapsed ones that would be.

Big Finish will no doubt pump out as much Jo Martin as people want once they get the rights to 13-era material next year.
