Should they kill a main character like Saru this year?

I was thinking. Doug Jones is brilliant playing different aliens with different looks. What if they killed Saru but kept Doug Jones as a regular. Tilly has to become second in command. Meanwhile Doug Jones a strange alien who joins the ship and then stays as a regular. It would shake things up maybe.

Saru is one of the best bits of Discovery. You could kill off Reese or most of the rest of the bridge crew without anyone noticing, though.

That actually would be a cool idea. Drive home the danger. Only 5 characters left at the end. Burnham,Tilly, Stamets,Adira and a new character.

A what? No, I don't think it would be snappy. I think it could be utilized as an illustration of just how dangerous this new anomaly is, resulting in characters having to make hard choices, including following Burnham, and being willing to lay their lives down in the name of saving each other. Not just following in to the unknown but now being willing to die in the name of their new home. And for it to actually matter.

I can see that happening with Detmer and would cry my eyes out over it.

No, killing a character would be for cheap effect, and it's not needed drama or IRL for availability reasons.

They should bring Lorca back, and then have him kill him. :)

    Why stop at one?

Why not have a 32nd century Jem’Hadar ship come out of nowhere, ram Discovery, and kill off the entire crew? Like what was planned for the Ent-D before the DS9 showrunners switch to the Odyssey.

No. Doug Jones has a distinctive voice. Too distinctive. Killing off Saru and recasting Doug Jones as another character would look like a gimmick and it would be.

See the "Unification III" thread to see what I think about Tilly as First Officer. Here's a hint: I wasn't and still am not in favor of it.

    It really wouldn't.

It's become a different type of show now. The days of "We're going to make this feel like Battlestar Galatica!" and "Anyone can die!" from the first season are gone. They're not coming back.

The biggest Marvel movie of them all, plus a comic series about 30(?) years ago.
