Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

Better than us. They're not even requiring proof of vaccination. Just masks (which wasn't the case just a month ago!). I've been carrying around my vaccination card just in case, but it's not one of those special IDs (which isn't going to be available here for a long time, it appears).

When i went to the movies for the first time since Covid all i had to show was "any" vaccination pass ( nothing new in Germany, this small booklet has been used since i was a baby to document any vaccinations anybody has received). The person at the entrance didn't even ask for my ID to crosscheck if that is actually my vaccination pass, it could have been anyones. So much for tight controls ( same would apply if i had the digital version for my smartphone, who can confirm if it's actually my smartphone?).

Can't wait until restrictions are lifted and i can get rid of that goddamn mask.

I think this is the first look we've gotten of actual worm riding.

This is my fav of the trailers

Damn, that was one of the short moments i mentioned in my review that i wanted not to spoil because it is such a cool moment

Seeing the Ornithopters again reminded me how badass they were ( especially when you see what Duncan can do with one ;) ) The trailer is nice and if you're not interested in the movie by that point don't bother.

I'll admit, I took my mask off when the movie started both times I went to the theatre even though it's against the rules. I'm fully vaxxed, only fully vaxxed people are allowed in (& kids under 12), and there is a zone around every ticket of two seats where no one can sit, and both times I was there the theater was pretty empty so it was actually a much bigger distancing.

I don't mind the mask when I'm doing stuff, but 2 hours (3 for dune....) sitting in a theater with distancing and a vaccine is just too much for me. Especially since I find my glasses fog worse when I'm not moving and wearing one

Like Irulan saying "The saga of dune is far from over" in the miniseries.

I think we see most of Duncan's arc in this trailer
I don't understand why he is such a fan favourite. He is a huge bit character and has no charm whatsoever. I would get if Gurney or Stilgar was the big favourite but Idaho I don't get

Idaho has always been a favorite character of mine, even from the book. Momoa brings a level of charm to it, but I personally just like this character who works to bridge two worlds so hard, and is that faithful soldier, loyal to the end.

It reminds me of a similar, small part in the first Chronicles of Narnia film, a centaur named Oreius, who had maybe three lines. However, one stuck out to me in the final battle of that film. Peter, the eldest, asks him, "Are you with me?" And he responds "To the death."

For me, such characters resonate deeply. Not sure if that explains it or not but that's my own take.
Have you read past the first book? There is an answer, but it kinda spoils the rest of the series.
I haven't read past book two, but my fascination with Idaho started since the first book. But, I'm the outlier who always likes the less common, underutilized, characters.

Well, Momoa is the reason they're focusing so hard on Idaho in the commercials - he's a big box office draw, especially for the ladies. The commercial I saw on Sunday night during the Simpsons was all Momoa all the time.

Fan wise I just didn't want to accidentally spoil @TimeIsAPredator

That's fair. I was just talking as a fan that I have always liked Idaho, even without reading further in to the series. Always was a favorite of mine.

Go watch the movie, you'll see. I'm a huge Momoa fan and this role is right up his alley.

Remember the outcry when he was cast, and then people started to remember how Duncan was originally portrayed and the books and went "Wait... That actually makes sense"

I meant going back long before this film

I agree that the book does not focus much on his character, he is there to move the narrative along but he still has some cool moments in it ( the movie expands a bit and gives him more to do to establish his character a bit better). However the same can be said of Gurney or Hawat. However in this movie he comes off very cool and you get to see why he has the title of Swordmaster.
