Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

Most of the people could give her notes enough to do a decent Jessica within 10 minutes, if asked for we could occupy half her day by really going all in ( or just tell her to read this thread in its entirety)

It's a huge sacrifice, but since it seems like it is necessary, I will pause my exciting life to attend multiple romantic excursions with Rebecca Ferguson, explaining to her what happens to Jessica in the books.

Dune is now at just below $ 97.6 million at the international box office, and it has yet to open in a lot of markets like the UK, China, and Australia.

I have a ton of vacation to burn so took today off.

Had a really nice day and then decided I didn't want to go home so am sitting in the local theater to watch Venom.

Dune poster in the lobby and Dune segment in the pre show. I'm probably more excited for the movie now than I have been in the last 5 years, just because of those two things.

A sense of the level of excitement for Dune for the general public:

Yesterday, I was a precinct worker for the local primary election for mayor and city council. Out of the seven people I worked with, one of them was also reading the novel in preparation for its release! And it was her first time, so she has no idea what to expect (she's about halfway through).

Start to annoy her by quoting Dune, especially the Litany against Fear (it's what i would do)

Been blasting both the Sketches and the Official Zimmer soundtrack, and it doesn’t disappoint!

:adore:

I really don't intend for this to come off as gloating but since i have seen the movie already be prepared to see it fully combined with the visuals at a theater with a very good sound system - it will blow you away how much the soundtrack sets and enhances the mood of the scenes. The first half of the movie that sets up the characters, events and general universe is so brilliant i went "Wow!" several times.

I can't wait for you all to see it so we can discuss all the details :techman:

I honestly read that as "prescient worker"
I think I have been reading too much Dune

So I finished the book I was reading today and went to pull out the Folio edition of Dune I bought and was saving to read before the movie and.... Could not find it.

Fuck.

Oh well, I'll just grab the ebook version to read a bit tonight and find my folio edition tomorrow.

122 people ahead of me in the waitlist for my libraries ebook licenses.

Seems like a good sign.

Nah, I'm not going to do that! I don't want to ruin the unique experience of reading it the first time!

That's the sense I've been getting from constantly listening to the scores. Seems like the experience is very reminiscent to Zimmer's excellent Interstellar score.

Same here! Gah! The waiting is terrible!

No such thing as reading too much of anything, let alone Dune!

Grr, talk about obstacles that keep popping up. My local theatres are only allowing people in who can prove they're fully vaccinated. And while I am vaccinated, getting the vaccination ID is a bit of a pain in the ass at the moment since the government office providing them is so overworked. Granted, the movie is still a few weeks away, but still, it's annoying.

In a happy coincidence for me Dune comes out in Ireland the same day we lift our final set of restrictions so it will be my first public event with no masks and I can party past midnight afterwards (so in Dune language goodbye stillsuit hello seitch orgy)

At least your area needs actual ID's, my area just uses the pdf we got emailed after each shot so they are easily faked by anti-vaxxers. They make them up in a word processor, and they are indistinguishable from the real thing.

Actually, that's kind of what we have, only they just started something new where we have to print off new ones that have a code on them, then mail that into our MLA's office, who will then verify the code, then laminated the ID with an Official Government Stamp on it, then it gets mailed back to us. Then add in it's been so long since I've used my printer that it's basically useless. Pain in the Ass.

You'd think after 2 years they'd have thought up some better systems.

We're supposed to have QR codes on Oct 22 but my government rejected the neighbours system (who have been using QR code passports for a month now already) in order to build their own system, and I stead of hiring any of the tech software companies in our province, the government opted to build it internally, so I really don't see it going live Oct 22 like they claim, or it working when it does.

We used a QR code system that was emailed or posted if you wished almost straight away after dose 2. It was surprisingly efficient and effective for the Irish civil service. Luckily though with 92% of the adult population vaccinated most people have given up scanning them as the chances you are dealing with a scammer are very very low. Usually the 8% want to make it very clear they have no vaccine

I'm vaxxed and getting a booster tonight, I'm OK with taking my chances regardless of whatever redhats and karens might happen to be Dune fans in the audience. I haven't worn a mask in months and really don't relish the idea of going back so I'm going to "trust the science" as they say and feel protected.

Better than us. They're not even requiring proof of vaccination. Just masks (which wasn't the case just a month ago!). I've been carrying around my vaccination card just in case, but it's not one of those special IDs (which isn't going to be available here for a long time, it appears).
