Anyhoo, I'll send my congrats for finally getting this out to John Broughton and company tomorrow. I know they had some significant challenges wrapping this up.

It definitely seems like they're working around the clock to get it going. They've been working on that helm console from some of the pictures I've shared.

I thought this was their best work, I found the characters and their motivations interesting and the best moments were the chemistry between Carter and the new character he encounters. The camaraderie felt natural as if it's not scripted; the actors were sharing something between them, it felt as if this part of the story was something I would get from reality TV, quasi-real but partially scripted, but I liked it and I hope Broughton and the actress return for another personal story.

I loved the villains in this fanfilm, the costumes and the nature of their society was something new and a breath of fresh air. No Klingons, or the usual tropes, these new aliens are interesting and there's more to explore with them I believe.
The revelations within the plot felt forced and I felt wasn't necessary because I believe the story as told didn't need it, it was better off set within its own pocket reality in their universe. Section 31 is the THANG now in the 21st Century, it seems from Hollywood to fanfilms can't find something new or original besides regurgitating something as old and weak from 1990's "yawn". Star Trek can be such a larger canvas if filmmakers could broaden their scope and open their brains a little
I even adored the score which would be better off in its own universe outside of Star Trek. It seems to me, the only things which are off were the Star Trek portions of the piece, which makes me wonder the potential of this series would be in a more positive standing if it wasn't Star Trek related.

Has it been mentioned if Michael Bednar will return for this reboot? (the chemistry between Carter, Smithfield and Tackert was always a fun part of that series)

He probably wouldn't be among the Farragut crew at least. He's either captain of the Constitution or another ship, an admiral, or retired. They should mention him though.

According to John Broughton's page, they'll begin filming in four days. This is probably the prologue I heard about in an interview - a teaser trailer if you may.

I don't think that's going to happen. We got a bit of something like that in "Homecoming."

I'm wondering was the decision to make the new stories set on the "Reliant" looking vessel because of those non-continuity Star Trek chronology books or to separate itself from being the Enterprise, Constitution Class vessel, established in TMP? I would like to think there were more Constitution ships in TMP era; I think it's a missed opportunity to tackle the era of TMP before going into the Harve Bennett era.

Well, it is an interesting choice. However, I've come to peace with it. The Farragut ships in the US Navy were all destroyers and not as prestigious as aircraft carriers, so it might make more sense for the Farragut to be a Miranda as opposed to a Constitution.

As with going to Harve Bennett era, one thing that is frowned upon in TMP was the bland look of things, such as the pale pajama-like uniforms (even though I do admit they do have a futuristic feel to them). The monster maroons are far more appealing.

Anyone who can shoot, edit and release a fan film deserves a lot of credit. I don't think anyone who doesn't have a professional background really appreciates just how hard it really is. I try to preface any comments I make about fan films with that kind of understanding. Even an audio-only project is a Frankenstein monster. I absolutely shudder to think what a video project would be like. As far as the uniforms for TMP, I thought they were...okay...but it might be worth remembering that (supposedly, legendarily...whatever) one of the selling points for TOS was that the brilliant colors would pop pop out of the early color TVs.

Sigh. TMP uniforms were far more in line with TOS, an upgrade for a crew who would have an extended 5 year mission. There's nothing practical for a crew of 400 to be wearing the monster maroons for an extended tour of duty in outer space. Those monster maroons are only appealing because of the allure from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I sincerely doubt you or anyone else would have unprecedented praise for those uncomfortable maroon outfits if they premiered in the "so-called" slow moving, journey of the human adventure in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Well, I never said I didn't like the TMP uniforms. But there are a lot of people who don't.

As mentioning about events after TMP, there is a second five-year mission that Kirk underwent with the refitted Enterprise after the events of that movie. And that has seldomly been covered, apart from a 5-issue Marvel series in the late 1990's called "Star Trek: Untold Voyages" as well as some novels and a few other comic book series, but that's about it.

In addition, the whole crew of 400 did NOT wear monster maroons, that was only the officers. The enlisted crew got jumpsuits. And in addition, "Farragut Forward" is working on a sleeker variant of the monster maroons for budget reasons, you would know this in the interview that I mentioned at the beginning of the thread.
