New Trailer reveals new old character and confirms setting

Maybe?

Ducane: "Well, I, a lowly Los Angeles Detective, have nothing to hold you for, and you just made bail. But there's something fishy going on here. I'm watching you, Mr. Galen."
Picard: "I'm sure you're just doing your due diligence, Detective Wagenbach, but like I said, I'm just a poor apple farmer from Kansas visiting the city for the first time. I had nothing to do with that ATM robbery."
Seven: "Father, I've paid your bail and... Oh, sh@$! It's you!"
Ducane: "F@#$! My cover's blown! Twenty years down the drain for nothing!"

So from what i'm gathering from the new trailer is that Q takes the sports almanac back in time, gives it to his younger self creating this alternate timeline. Now Picard and crew have to travel back to 1955 to stop it.

Also, are they only doing a time travel storyline in contemporary Los Angeles because this show isn't getting much of a budget. Season 1 gave me the impression that this was being done on the cheap, with most of the money going to Discovery and Strange New Worlds.

Is it just me or does the plot in the trailer (Q changes the timeline, crew has to go back to 21st century Earth to undo the changes to the timeline, trouble happens, crew finally returns to present day, everything is back to normal and Picard has learned a lesson about himself) could easily be the plot of a 2 hr Trek movie or a 2 part episode, not an entire season?

If that is indeed what is happening. I have a feeling the trailers are being edited as red herrings. I question how much Q has to do with the reality shift.

Now the question is: Will this be 2400 Guinan coming back to help Picard and his friends? Or 2028 Guinan still chilling out on Earth for some reason and running into that same time traveler again?
She could be in a sanctuary district and that's where Picard helps her and where they become "beyond friendship and family"... it was never the SF cave in the 19th century, where he just sat with her, but him getting her out of a slum in the 21st!

Yeah, if this was just Q's doing, it would be a silly little game, a la Qpid or Tapestry. Picard would just be angry and grumpy, not concerned and actionable. There's something else going on, and Q is along for the ride to see how Jean-Luc will handle it, a la All Good Things and Encounter at Farpoint.

Eh, Scalzi's Redshirts is basically Red Dwarf's Back to Earth.

There are worse things to steal from. :)

Whenever did Picard or anyone travel back in time or perform any other action to counteract Q's fantasies?

"Tapestry" is basically Picard jumping through hoops at Q's behest to change the past.

Q is (mostly) a benevolent force but you have to follow his twisted logic to get from Point A to Z.

Some thoughts about the ST Day Trailer. I'm fully aware that the trailer can be totally misleading; it's still fun to speculate.

- So Little Picard had to wear 1920's clothes?

- Is JL the Evil Fascist leader in the Elvil Fascit TL?

- 9/ 11 reminiscence with the skyscrapers exploding/ collapsing (maybe a resistance group? It was antifa!!)

- Yay! Laris & Zahban! Hopefully not just a cameo. Laris looks fantastic. (So do Raffi and Seven.) Please let Laris and Seven keep their Evil Fascist Timeline hair!

- Laris (to Picard, I assume): "Have you been seeking or running?" Not sure I'm retroactively buying that.

- JL in the evening suit looks dapper!

- Love the "I'm way to old for this bullsh-" - Q-snap! scene

- I'm guessing some time has elapsed between season 1 and 2, so that all the bonding of our ragtag crew happened off-screen; e.g. apparently Elnor is now Raffi's surrogate son. And we may have skipped the Raven (this MUST be Raffi & Seven's ship name! Make it so!) courting phase right to the "bickering as if married for years" stage. If they followed trough with the premise, that is.

- Regardless, I do like Seven and Raffi as a team, provided they don't bicker all the time. I assume most people in the 23rd century wouldn't know how to drive a car?

- I loved The Voyage Home, but I do hope that they have a bit more to offer than a bit of TVH plus Tapestry thrown in. I'm half expecting humpback whales to show up!

- Sanctuary districts - nice callback to DS9. If they want to comment on current social issues like homelessness, fine - more than fine, actually - but please do something more profound and subtle than someone soapboxing for half a minute.

- Any chance Jurati could get assimilated for good? Just asking for a friend. Maybe that would be the final straw to break the imprisoned BQ

- So Soji was created in this TL, too? Would be nice to see Dajh again.

- I would just love it if Seven had to find out that her counterpart in the Evil TL was married to Bjayzl, but I guess we'd know if the actress had returned
- More likely: She's married to Chuckles. Yeah, ruin two new Trek shows for me, will you?!

- I don't think Q caused the "time being broken", even though the trailer makes us think he did

- Is Picard being interrogated by a time cop?

- My guess is that the Europa mission will be crucial, maybe the action culminates onboard the ship/ rocket, whatever it is

- I hope the show isn't as action-heavy as the trailer. (Even though I agree with the poster above who said it's nice to see the ladies do the kicking ass.)

- I would have preferred a smaller-scale adventure than "saving the universe, again", more character-focused etc., but we already knew that wasn't going to happen. And "I'm way too old for this shit" is basically code for "action movie with too old dude doing exactly this shit".

So in this alternate timeline, the Queen is held captive in a lab? Apparently the Queen can help them travel through time? Annie Wersching's casting announcement indicated a recurring role, but on the surface it seems like a limited one.

Is that Annie Wersching in the trailer at 1:40? In the Chateau with child Picard, looking fully human.

If that even is her, it's probably some kind of dream/vision sequence, or Kenneth-Mitchell-style double-casting. Though in this Trek era, we really could not rule out the Queen's big reveal being "Jean-Luke, I am your mother."
