I wonder how the Dooplers Duplicating Bio-Mechanism even works, because that is incredibly powerful if you can control it and not let your emotions control it.

And how does it not violate the "Law of Conservation of Energy"?

Imagine being able to clone yourself to get more things done voluntarily.

Are the clones like Naruto's Kage Bunshin clones where they're somewhat flimsy and easily defeatable if you're inexperienced?

Also when are we going to get to see Rutherford x Mariner & Tendi x Boimler in a dedicated episode where they're paired together to have different adventures together where they get to really interact?

And when are we going to get more Boys Trips & Girls Trips?

The Dooplers seemed like something that would work better on Futurama.

Car chases are always fun, especially on a Space Station; very Blues Brothers.

Why wouldn't there be model kits of Starships and stations, I mean we have model kits of classic cars and airplanes.

Shelby! Okona!

nobody wears skants anymore.

I don't get why the Starfleet party is so restrictive on who can attend. but like someone said, it's not a utopia, and neither is Starfleet.

it may be ok to just go make an appearance at the big afterparty, but the dive bar is always where its at. And if has the James T kirk seal of approval, then it's ok with me.

Love the development between our four main Lower Deckers.

We need more Billups, they don't have him around a lot.

appreciate the little vague peeks into Mariner's whole sordid life.

Is the station not a Starfleet facility? I was a little unclear on that, with the corrupt security and all the sketchy stuff going on.

I give it an 8. Would have gone higher if not for the Dooplers.

Could the Dooplers be explained as individuals somehow composed of many selves across the multiverse? Like a trans-dimensional Portuguese Man o'war. So popping them off could cause real injury.

I don’t think Kirk and Spock ever had sex with each other. That doesn’t make any sense.
They were just friends and he was probably drunk when he did it.

It appears that they carved "Kirk + Spock" into the table, but then Mariner (or Boimler) carves "Mariner + Boimler" into the table. And we know they're not having sex yet, therefore Kirk and Spock probably weren't having sex at the time of their drunken night together. There's no indication in the episode that they were more than drinking buddies.

Ok, I have a question too: Is Mike McMahan trolling Memory Alpha with Mariner's infinite history? I think he wants to see how many location headings he can make appear in her article. lol

Mariner was explicitly called out as a liar last week, so I wouldn't trust most of her statements of past history. We do know she lived on Starbase 25 because of third party verification, but it must not've been for long or was when she was fairly young, because she was unfamiliar with that historical bar. I imagine she may have lived with her father at the time (perhaps he was station commander?), because Carol doesn't reference any familiarity with the station as a former posting.

Like she said, it was Kirk who was doing the drinking. :)
Thinking about it, Kirk and McCoy would have worked better.

I like the idea that they're noncorporeal projections. Otherwise, the old tribble explanation that they might be accumulating mass from the nearby atmosphere applies. But, at least tribbles duplicated after eating (except for Trouble with Edward), and the Dooplers were way too efficient with their duplication.

When humans duplicate (make babies), the baby's mass comes from what the mother eats. Unlike humans and tribbles, Dooplers aren't reproducing when they duplicate, but just making a copy of itself with all memories, presumably at time of duplication. When they angrily swallow nearby Dooplers, they must be reacquiring those separate memories (or just eating the less angry of the two?), and then probably expelling the excess mass in colorless gasless form. Maybe.

If it's an energy being, this is all just for show. If it's transdimensional, then we could just say they're sent to and from another dimension. Some of those Dooplers were undoubtedly crushed under the weight of that shuttle in the shuttle bay, and maybe more suffocated in various closed off rooms on the ship.
Though more dangerous becuase they have functional phasers and the warp core can be made to explode.

Well that toy was created by Rutherford. He probably would settle for nothing less than fully functional phasers and warp core. Loved the two-factor authentication on the auto-destruct.

Kirk + Spock... In my country someone + someone carved in wood normally means romance... The other day I was taking a stroll through a wooded area not far and found such an inscription in a tree plus a date and a heart (which certainly left no ambiguity as to the significance) the date was seventy years ago! Wow. If this couple stayed together, they now have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren! Life is funny sometimes.

I laughed my ass off with this episode. But what really made this episode for me is the Mariner/Boimler relationship. I like the character work on this show between all the characters.

Also, Spirk is canon! Space Husbands 4 life. (Of course, Kirk's been pansexual since 1979 when Roddenberry gives it a passing mention in the TMP novelization.)

7 but barely.

I didn’t find the dooplos thing funny or believable (apart from the very first scene, with the fork, and dr T’Ana, which is always hilarious) and found the endless action sequence quite boring. The episode is saved a bit by the characters scenes and Kirk’s bar but I do hope this is the last episode in the season to be dedicated to Mariner’s anger towards Boimler leaving or Rutherford’s change.

Cool Easter eggs as usual (kzinti again, the guardian of time, the avians from TAS, the doomsday machine…the skants!!)
