Mental Excercise.... lets say you have a clean slate to reboot Trek, but attempt to stick as close to the roots as possible. What kind of story arc could you come up with, that includes, say, ENT: Fusion, Star Trek: The Way to Eden, TAS: The Majicks of Megas Tu, and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Thoughts? I've always enjoyed speculating on what a more serialized version of TOS would look like; Things like, the end of The Naked Time leading into Tomorrow is Yesterday and Assigment Earth, or City on the Edge of Forever spawning the Mirror Universe. I've seen some fanedits that do some pretty interesting things, like The Eden planet being where Flint lives, or the Asteroid from Paradise Syndrome also being the asteroid from The World is Hollow. What other through-lines can you find and reimagine from the various Trek series?
Cult of emotional Vulcans (with a penchant for invading privacy with their mind powers) had me thinking of Sybok the first time i saw it. I hope I'm thinking of the right episode.
Sybok leads a cult of emotional Vulcans into hijacking the Enterprise on a journey to find God in a nearby nebula, which ends up leading to a realm of magic which the devil calls home.
TMP needs to be a series. A series based on the Dyson Sphere from Relics. Now I think I could make a pretty nice TOS movie like was done with some Kolchak episodes by having the opening of the Alternative Factor talking about invasion…some of the voice work from TAS “One of Our Planets is Missing”…The Doomsday Machine…and having a modern voice report that the planet killer passed near the Neutral zone and ending with Balance of Terror
I wouldn't mind a narrative connecting all of the Alt-history-Earth stories and the Preservers, some type of mystery that unfolds on each "similar" planet, starting with Miri, then Omega Glory, Bread and Cirucses, culminating in Miramanee and the Preservers and Kirk's big story there. Alternative Factor could be part of an arc that includes Mirror Mirror. Or even Invasian from the Kelvans. Or the super-speed people.
I got another. In another thread, there has been speculation that the imitative Iotians were actually advanced LARPers, or even robots. What if it is a theme park planet, ala Westworld, with the gangster theme being the most recently activated with the Horizons visit? Are there multiple amusement planets? Like Shore Leave? Where did all of these advanced robots come from? Manufactured on Mudd's Android planet of course. By who? Well Sargon's people were ancient and could build androids. What if it was their tech? And the reason they could even think about assembling the bodies for their essence is because the Enterprise crew had already experimented with / had parts from their previous Android encounters.
How? Huh? Wha? Isn't a Dyson sphere a ridiculously huge manmade creation that surrounds a star? What does that have to do with anything?
"Voyager" should've done something like this! My ideas: "Resolutions" and "Basics." They really had two stranded-on-a-planet episodes in a row? Why not just have J an C bond while stranded with the rest of the crew in the "Basics" storyline. And for God's sake, make it a healthier relationship, don't make Chak so creepy/depressingly obsessed with her and begging to be her slave. "The Gift"/"Day of Honor"- Instead of random aliens, have either Seven's attempts to return to the Collective or Kes's out-of-control powers lead to Tom and B'Elanna floating in space. "Hunters" and "Nemesis:" How about if the Hirogen captured and brainwashed Chakotay, as a regular way to prep their prey for the fight? This could also lead into "the Killing Game." I'm too tired to go on right now.
