Spoilers The Ships of Lower Decks

Size Comparison from new Starship Encyclopedia........I don't lik et, but that's what they say.........

The size in the book is wrong. It should be 535.2 meters long, 121.3 meters tall. Right from the horse's mouth.

Engineering is now in the pod
It was always in the pod.

Why the California-class is such a supermassive ship in the Shipyards book?
I would've thought it is a contemporary of those Ambassador-Galaxy kitbash ships from the 2360s ("Best of Both Worlds").

It ain't.
Whoever put that comparison chart together fuckedup royally.

Mike McMahan say's blame 'Q' for these kinda errors. :techman:

There’s already another ship right on that page that’s massively underscaled. There’s no way that the Cerritos is that large.

I tend to wonder if the people making these books even have an ounce of common sense.

The Prometheus double-conversion aside, this looks more like someone just didn’t have access to the show’s animation artists. There is no point to doing these books if you’re a licensee no less but can’t reliably get dimensions off the latest models when needed. I can usually go to EAS if all I need are reasonable extrapolations.

Which is totally valid :) The revisions to the Cerritos in S2 show blue perimeter lighting on either side of the saucer which I believe highlights the saucer shuttlebays. The curved bay entrance, walled in by an angled hull we see in 'Crisis Point' tie in with the pod features, so the Cerritos likely has at least 3 shuttlebays.

^ Or two, depending on whether the shuttlebay in the saucer is actually one big bay with two openings.

I originally thought these 2 grey areas might be shuttlebay doors, and they still could be. They are at the back.

It wasn't till later on they showed the pod being used as a shuttlebay.

Much like the Galaxy. The towing of which might be one of the jobs the California was designed for.

...Okay, the towing of Ambassadors and Niagaras or whatever. But there could have been some overcapacity built in, or then a nacelle refit would take care of that...

So, what is actually new about the new Cerritos? Rather than merely better drawn? The extra lifepods, the extra glowy bits at the aft ends of the nacelles, but perhaps not much else.

The computers are now cheese-proof. And they got new Mark XII sauce dispensers in the mess. The ones that can handle baconaisse.

Trekyards interviewed Mike about the ship. You’ll get some answers, as well as some “other” features the ship has there.

Yeah they had an interview almost a year ago now with Mike talking about the ship. It was actually pretty good, for TrekYards at least.

Yeah. I know they are not that well liked here (for some reason) but I thought I would bring it up. I’m waiting to see what other features the ship has.
